Masks were never worn to protect yourself from getting covid. They were worn to protect others should you be infected as it significantly reduces particle spread from your nose and mouth. Just like closing the toilet seat before flushing stops particles of faecal matter from spreading around the bathroom.
I don't trust children. They're here to replace us.

The toilet thing or the mask thing? Toilet thing works. There's no 'anti-toiletseaters' about. The science checks out.
The mask thing? Depends on the mask really but it be the rules that are ridiculous. At the height of the pandemic, I could have been refused entry into Tesco for forgetting my mask. I could have then, in front of them, taken my shoe off...then my sock...and proceed to use said sock to cover nose and mouth. I'd then be allowed entry into Tesco holding a sock over my face holes.
Just didn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to anything.
If we're talking N95 respirator, sure. Good mask, protects others (and yourself actually this one). But who just stuck a useless bit of cloth over their face to 'play by the rules'? If it wasn't a medical mask... it was a useless bit of cloth.

That and/or fear and not knowing what to do. Aside from vaccines, no one really knows what to do about the pandemic. We can stay in our houses, govt. can force us to stay in our houses, we can avoid crowds, but there's no guaranteed way to prevent the spread.
No govt. will ever admit they don't know something and certainly not an Asian govt. How many times can you lose face before you have no face at all?
That is it though, at least for now, the pandemic is done. The only justification for mask wearing is as buksi says, "Forcing everyone to wear a mask is simply the junta flexing its muscles and reminding the peasants who is in control and not to argue/question them."
It should now be a personal choice e.g. Mrs BB wore a mask quite often before when the air was bad, and will probably continue to do so.

There is plenty of evidence that masks worked for the Spanish 'Flu. Compare states where masks were mandated against states where they were not. The stats do show that face masks worked then and there was no N95 in those days.
I read a report some time ago comparing states with mask mandates and states where there was no mandate. Certainly on paper, the evidence seemed overwhelmingly in favour of face masks.
However I can't find the report now so I'll step back from this one.
I retract the phrase "There's plenty of evidence....' because if there was I'd be able to find it quickly.

Certainly, from personal experience, not that long ago, it seemed almost as if every other person I knew had covid, whether here or in the UK. Symptoms were generally mild and recovery quick. Today, that number has reduced to one.
The locals are going to take some time to break free of the previous few years of brainwashing, regardless of the science... as that's what they are used to. I think we will see many still using masks regardless of whether they are legally ditched or not.
Personally, I think it's now done and we should move towards the old normal or much will be lost and this MO can't go on forever. We need to save the economy for the majority.
There are always casualties and you can't wrap everyone up in cotton wool. To keep some perspective, look at how many die from the normal influenza each year and those that need jabs get them... need to move back to that.

I don't think there is any problem regarding the wearing or not wearing of masks - it should be down to personal choice. The problem comes when the law of the land tries to enforce the wearing. Some people just oppose authority, rightly or wrongly, they do it as a matter of course.
This same defiance of authority is currently killing thousands, who won't have a vaccine because they are being told to. You won't beat stupid.

^^ except when they are/were infecting others. I would also guess they were not thinking about those two high minded things when an intubation tube was being forced down their throats.
