It’s like the Klondike- outside the carpark is full of pick-up trucks down on their axles with precariously loaded boxes of beer and whiskey. Makro must have made a months sales in a morning.
Another Mickey Mouse production
I would think the majority of pickup trucks loaded up with booze would be the owners of Mom N Pop shops stocking up and as I understand it they are allowed to buy alcohol at any time over a certain amount if they have the right card.

I went makro in BuriRam this morning,no booze on sale. Apparently it is up to each province to decide when to start alcohol sales.

That was always the case. Don't understand the confusion. The government only rules the maximum downplay of restrictions then it's up to the governors to state their case in their province.

Was at the mini Big C in my soi in Bangkok just after 11 this morning to pick up a couple of bottles. The guy in front of me bought 5 cases, but the guy behind me had just two bottles. He said he liked a beer after dinner. Probably thinking on the same lines as me, better get some beer early before some muppet changes his mind and booze sales are cancelled in the evening. At least I'll be ending the drought this evening with a sip (or three)

Booze rush at shops as ban ends

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... s-ban-ends

Some provinces keep ban this month

Liquor sections at supermarkets and convenience stores on Sunday were thronged with customers eager to buy alcoholic beverages after sales resumed for the first time in almost a month.

Shops across the country saw people buying beer, wine and whiskey in bulk as the clock reached 11am, the earliest time alcoholic beverages can legally be sold.

Boxes of beer at the Makro cash-and-carry store in Srinakarin area in Muang district of Samut Prakan were rushed to checkout counters in the first five minutes. Liquor departments in other stores saw customers forming long queues to quench their thirst.

"The shop has to urgently get more beer and whiskey as they are running out of stock," Pratheep Wicchaphin, owner of Hok Kee, a wholesale shop in Phimai district of Nakhon Ratchasima said.

Sales of alcoholic beverages are now permitted under measures to ease the lockdown -- but buyers are only allowed to drink at home.

"There have been no customers since the ban began," said Darunee Raksai, who bought beer and whiskey at Hok Kee to resell at his shop at Ban Tanong in Phimai.

Not all provinces have lifted the ban; the decision is left up to provincial governors, who m ay continue it if they fret about possible Covid-19 transmission at drinking gatherings.

Buri Ram, Chanthaburi, Lop Buri, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Phanom, Phetchaburi, Phitsanulok and Rayong are among the provinces where the ban remains in force. The period of the ban varies depending on the judgement of the governor.

Although buyers cannot drink in restaurants and shops, some places on Sunday defied the order issued by the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration.

Trakul Nunil, the Sahatsakhan district chief in Kalasin, on Sunday ordered four floating restaurants in Lampao dam to close after they sold alcoholic beverages to customers.

Authorities raided the rafts and ordered clients to pay their bills and leave after they found some were drinking beer or whiskey.

The restaurants defied the order not to sell alcoholic beverages, the district chief said.

But is that with the governor's blessing or in spite of him?

Well I'm sorry this post will only be a rumour, but a friend of mine spoke to one of the whole sellers of alcohol here in Hua Hin today, and he said there might be a possibility that the authorities will close the alcohol sales from the 7th. and for the rest of the month.

With the last closing of alcohol sales in mind we all know they want say anything before the evening before it will be closed down.

Trucks from Phetchaburi have been coming to HH to stock up since over in that province the sale of alcohol did not open up.

Mods: Feel free to delete the post if inappropriate, but I feel people deserve to know. When waking up on Thursday morning it could be too late!

So if the wholesalers believed the ban would be re-introduced from the 7th, there would be no point for them scrambling for supplies. One of the points in their petition to relax the sale of alcohol was that the wholesalers do not have the conditions to store the stuff. i.e. temperature etc. They needed to get it to their customers who do have the wherewithal to store it.

Sounds like a rumour. Time will tell.
