Pies in Hua Hin

Hua Hin Ham and Bacon's 'fresh' pork pies are as good as you will find in Hua Hin. They seem to lose something once frozen. You need to ask HHH&B to contact you when they have fresh pies - you won't be disappointed.

We're all different, but I found tthe pork pie they sell particulary poor. I cut into mine and all the pastry fell off the meat, leaving it looking sad and lonely. It definitely wasn't appetising.

I have been hoping for years and years that somebody will eventually import Melton Mowbry pork pies to Thailand but I've not found them yet. There are many different pork pies around and I have tried every one I have come across but I've still not found any even remotely as good as a real MM pork pie.

I have to admit to being something of a foodie and made a large pork pie some years ago here in Thailand - not made one since but might give it a try soon

My Father was a big fan of Melton Mowbray pork pies but he used to drive there and buy them from a butchers shop so I don't know how you would get an original one in Thailand.

For Harry - sadly no longer available, and never was in Hua Hin, but Tops used to sell Duckinson & Morris MM pork pies. But then suddenly, just after Brexit, they weren't available. They were replaced by Stobbarts pork pies, from Yorkshire, not a MM pork pie, but okay, but they disappeared from the shelves some months back, with so far, no sign of a replacement.

The photo looks nothing like a Melton Mowbray Pork Pie, the pastry, meat and jelly look wrong. It may taste delicious, but... It seems that it takes 4 days to make a Melton Mowbray pie which I'm sure is why the taste is special. In the UK you can buy Melton Mowbray pies at most major supermarkets, including Sainsbury's, Asda, Tesco and M&S so there is no reason why they can't be exported here. After all pies from other famous UK manufacturers (Greggs, Hollands, etc.) are readily available.

Well I don’t think that I claimed that it looked like a Melton Mowbray pork pie, of which I’ve had many. You’ve quoted that they are available from just about every supermarket in the UK and if you read any of the reviews about them, you’ll find that they vary considerably in taste and appearance, but of course what someone considers to be the best, may not agree with someone else’s opinion!!

A good article. I looked up a bit more on internet and it seems there are quite a few companies making them but they have to do it in a controlled way because of the EU status (must be made within a certain area and following the standards laid down by the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association. This means that the difference in both taste and appearance must be minimal. Please don't get me wrong, of course everyone rightly has their own opinion and I am only expressing mine.
