I think it is the tray of chopped onions sitting next to the jalapinos and cold cuts, salami and such, and then being stirred by the ceiling fan or air con..gently mixed in with the aroma of whatever hot sandwich they are heating in the microwave. You are not alone, the SW's everywhere are the same but on most days, opening to closing, there seems to be a long line to be served. Pete

Getting a Subway is just as much as the new Tesco Lotus complex is, a sign that Hua Hin has arrived. Before we had to go to BKK to get this, now they have it here. This town is changing by leaps and bounds. I hope it all works out.

Subway

Post by acerockolla »

Urrghh - Any decent sandwich stand in the UK can out do a subway - and the food in the UK is compared with the food in LOS is plain and simple crap - why anybody would consider subway in LOS is way beyond me.

old thread?

Post by Chas »

This is a two year old thread, but I have to add that I happen to like Subway and go there regularly. Makes a nice addition to the local eating scene.

They make fresh bread into a sandwich the way you want to have it made. They add what you want and leave out what you dont want. . . I like the choice and control. . .which you just dont get in other places. What's not to like??

That the food in England is better than the food anywhere is news to me and probably to the rest of the world as well.( The UK has never had a good culinary reputation before. ..high time I'd say.)

Why anybody would come to Thailand to eat Subway, Mcdonalds or Kentucky fry is a mystery to me when there is such a good range of healthy Thai food.

Are you out of your mind??? Firstly, the food in the UK is WAY WAY WAY superior to Thailand's. You can get great Thai food in the UK plus any other type of food the world has to offer, it's the best range of food available anywhere. Plus the UK has loads of top quality locally grown produce.

Secondly, subway is a great fast food chain that does delicious sandwiches.

Lindosfan - Stop being such a massive, superior snob and let people eat what they want. Healthy food??? Thai food has terrible hygiene standards and huge quantities of salt and MSG. You can eat as healthily as you want in the UK and health standards are much higher!

I'm not slagging Thai food just saying it gets way to high a rep. Anyone who thinks the food in the UK is crap, probably hasn't been there in a while. People are now demanding great food.

Eating out

Post by Chas »

Lindos, we have had several threads on this very topic before.

Because this is Thailand, it does not mean that we can or should eat only Thai food. In every country, there are many alternatives to the national cuisines available, why not here?

I did not "come to" Thailand for the food. This is my home and I live here permanently for many other much more important reasons.

Besides, I really do NOT like Thai food. It is one of the down sides of living here for me. Yes, there are some Thai dishes I have learned to stick to in order to survive, but I am thankful for all the restaurant and eating choices that Hua Hin provides.

snob

I am not a snob, personally my view is the standard of cuisine is higher in the UK than most areas in the world.
I just dislike fast food outlets.
Yes I only eat Thai food at the moment only been here 4 months, probably the time will come when I will crave a different cuisine but not from a fast food outlet.

Have you ever been to MK in Market Village? That's a fast food outlet, it's healthy and Thais love it. If not, I suggest you try it and you might be pleasantly surprised. I can understand your feelings about McDonalds and BK but Subway is a different kettle of fish. Lots of good healthy ingredients and lean meat. Plus it's yummy!

I just get sick of people in the UK thinking it's ok to say 'Ewww, how can you eat that?' while I'm taking a bite on a Big Mac. :guns:

fast food

Post by darwinian »

I agree with Lindosfan1.
I have never tried Mcdonalds or Kentucky fried crap.I found the smell of such places is sufficient to keep me away.
I was dragged into MK near Tesco. The food was awful. Suitable forpigs or for those without tastebuds.

Firstly, you call it Kentucky Fried Crap and yet you've never tried it. Yes it's crap but a Zinger burger is good from time to time. As for MK, it's traditional Chinese meat and steam boat. There's a reason why it's the ONLY place in Hua Hin where you have to wait for a table. MK rules!!!

And there's nothing wrong with my tastebuds!

I would not try "food" smelling like the stuff sold at Mcdonalds, Burger Kings and other such fast food chains.Who knows what goes into the burgers.
I only eat burgers that I make myself. It is safer that way.
The stuff I was giver at Mk was roast duck which was so sickly sweet that I could not eat it. It did, however appear to be duck so maybe one day I might try their soup.

Go into the subway. Ask for a spicy Italian. You will be asked to choose from 5 freshly baked bread. After adding the Pepperoni & Genoa Salami, the assistant will give you a choice of cheese, red onions, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickles, green peppers, hot peppers, olives, salt and pepper. (No salt required the meat is salty, as are the (GREEK) olives. You will then be asked to choose from a dirrent array of delicious sauces, Olive Oil, Vinegar, Mustard, Mayonnaise, Sweet Onion Sauce, Honey Mustard Sauce, Caesar, Ranch or Italian, BBQ, (I recommend the Oil with a little vinegar).

Wash it down with a cup of hot coffee.

Result? Magnificano, delicious and healthy. It sets you up for a solid dump later in the day!
