Yes, roundabouts are almost non-existent in the U.S. The first time I ever saw one was when I moved to Saudi Arabia and I had no clue how to use them and still don't. The only ticket I've ever gotten in Bangkok was in the Victory Monument roundabout and I still don't know what I did wrong.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

In UK cars on the roundabout have priority, only join when there is a gap

Major highway median strip 'too wide'

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN - More than 2,000 people living in Hua Hin municipality have signed a petition complaining the median strip on the main highway is too big and asking that it be reduced in size.

They argue the median strip on Phetkasem Road is too wide and has caused traffic congestion and accidents.
Their petition is aimed at the senior military officer in charge of the province, as the representative of the National Council for Peace and Order.

He said it was very wide, and several U-turns were located quite close and had caused problems for motorists, particularly during weekends when local pople and tourists were experiencing traffic jams several kilometres long.

Really and truly I wonder if there is a school or university in Thailand that teaches or offers a degree in traffic management/flow mechanics? I don't see how there could be.

What they are doing on the main drag at this time reminds me of the nightmare that they tried in rerouting traffic a few months ago around Soi 70 and the night market and that lasted all of one day I think. The had put their best minds to work on that goofy idea.

I was talking with a friend about the new median and we had agreed that within a year they would be jackhammering that all out of there. Maybe now it will be even sooner.

Lawd help us when the new water park (sooner) and the new mall (later) get open.

Cheers!

I'm not a driver but I do see what's happening from songthaews and I can't understand it.
South of town, that central divide is getting wider so I assume that will be detrimental to traffic flow. However, they seem to be reclaiming some pavement width. I suppose that us pedestrians are second or even third rate citizens again - assuming I live and don't fall down a hole.
They seem to be doing the same up here north of town, without the central divide - or maybe there is a divide in places. I can't remember.
I can only see more reason to stay indoors at weekends and especially holiday times - but I won't.

Yep. If you have a nice wide road with increasing traffic, then let's make it narrower. We love bottlenecks don't we??!!
The authorities should give the kindergartens the project. I'm sure they would do better.

I've said it before, but this has to be the same guy who lost a lot of face a few months back when his improved traffic system around the centre had to be scrapped in less than a day. He's getting his revenge.

Only yesterday I was driving down Petchkasem, and the road was reduced to a single lane because tourists were being forced to walk down the inside lane with their suitcases because of the inadequate pavements.

This guy will certainly be remembered, not for anything good, but he will definitely be remembered.

The question has to be asked though, who is actually approving this mayhem. We all have stupid ideas from time to time, but we can't carry them them out because people stop us us, or we can't afford it.

I guess the Hua Hin Traffic (mis) Manager must have an influential daddy.

Well Petcha southbound is down to single file as they are painting the orange stripe down to the u-turn outside Condo Chain. Expect delays for a while as they are proceeding at the pace of a snail. :banghead:

All we need now is the twice weekly police road block and Petcha southbound will be shut
