Re: The thing you miss the most?
I'd go pretty much with Richard's view. My sister (who also lives in Bev, but we aren't from there originally) always reckons that Hull is a good night out. Never seen it myself so I just don't understand the notion. Maybe I just don't know it well enough but there's a lot of overly full, rough pubs with some pretty rough customers; and those that aren't too full are empty - completely.
Agreed

Had enough of the trolls. Going to sleep. I may be some time....

Some chocolate brown african american would probably single handedly compensate the night life of LOS.Korkenzieher wrote:Decent & reasonably priced cheese and wine. Calvados.
@hollister. I'm with you on that - but tend to prefer east coast, around St.Augustine. Florida is pretty tough competition for Thailand IMHO, as prices rise, for (for eg) retirees, who don't have to worry about the tax system so much. I would miss some of the more colourful 'local' life here though (ahem!)
And after another damn mosquito night I might add that during 18 years vacationing in Florida I have never been biten by a single one overthere but hundreds of times in LOS despite that cream/spray from 7eleven.

Good quality chocolate at a sensible price.

So kinda like hanging out on HH Forum, then?Vital Spark wrote: The general feel of the lovely town I grew up in was rather depressing, with people moaning about everything, from the government and police, to utility costs and vets fees.

Well I've not long left England to really be missing anything, having only been here 6 weeks so far.
Interestingly, though, on the many times I came here before finally moving, it took me a lot less than 6 weeks to start missing things about Thailand!
One that's cropped up in this thread a lot is 'the seasons'. I honestly can't see me missing those one jot. Are you guys sure you're just not looking back with rose tinted glasses? Forgetting that whatever level of clothing you pick out to begin the day, at some point in the day (and usually or MOST of the day) it's going to be either too much or too little and you'll either have to carry additional clothes round with you in the sweltering heat, or freeze your arses off because you didn't wear enough 'layers'.
Spending over half the year freezing my arse off, and probably a third of it so cold I don't even want to get out of bed, let alone leave the house? Nooo thanks.
Here I look out the windows and it's either sunny, in which case I wear a tshirt and some light trousers. Or it's raining. In which case I wear, well, a t-shirt and some light trousers, and get wet until such a time as I can dry off!
(edit - sorry didn't realize this was actually a pretty old thread!)
Re: The thing you miss the most?
Apart from the practical side I think people refer more to blossoming trees and frolicking lambs in the spring, the long anticipated first day on the beach followed by a nice garden barbeque with family and friends in summer, enduring a severe autumn storm (together!) and feeling one with nature for a moment and the first snowflakes in winter. Personally I certainly prefer 25-35 degrees all year round, but that does not mean I do not miss the seasons, sort of.
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.

Yes, I miss the seasons, but if your from a place that has extreme weather I can understand why you wouldn't. I'm from a place (actually lived three places in the same country) that all had different seasons that were pleasant rather than extreme.... speaking of extreme climate and clothing, the only clothing I ever pick here is shorts, t-shirts, and flip-flops and that's too much in this hot-as-hell climate but the missus won't let me go nude in public. One that's cropped up in this thread a lot is 'the seasons'. My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Try a loin cloth during the day, and a thin toga for the evenings HHF.

a good doner kebab ,does anyone know where to get one ,ive missed them for a good few years
Re: The thing you miss the most?
You can always add more clothing so long as you brought some along. Where I'm from it can be warm and sunny when you leave and there'd be no point bringing a jumper or coat out with you. It can change quickly though. And of course then you've got the "I was only going to be out for a couple of hours now it's midnight" syndrome. Not fun if you didn't choose the right clothing.hhfarang wrote: You can always add more clothing in a cold climate, but you can only take off so much (even if you're still miserable) in heat and humidity.
Plus I much prefer getting out of the heat into artificial (air con) chill, than getting out of the cold into artificial (log fires or, much worse, radiated) heat. Artificial heat is stuffy and icky. Air con in coool and refreshing.

Lamb donner will always be difficult to find in Thailand. I've seen a chicken donner stand on the road that goes along side the railways station. I don't know where you're from, but if it's England then you'll find that we have a pretty unique way of doing our Donner kebabs that you just wont find elsewhere!ste860 wrote:a good doner kebab ,does anyone know where to get one ,ive missed them for a good few years
