Because adapting will be expensive, no one actually knows how bad things will get and we're going to have to invest in renewable energy when fossil fuels run out anyway so why not do it now?Why don't we adapt to a warmer climate....

Re: Peak Concern for global warming has Passed
I've certainly already experienced problems adapting to a warmer climate...

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Russia should be all for it. Sunbathing in Siberia. Bet they can't wait.STEVE G wrote:...adapting will be expensive, no one actually knows how bad things will get and we're going to have to invest in renewable energy when fossil fuels run out anyway so why not do it now?
Ok. So which nations do you suggest will kick-off with the investment? America? Insolvent. The UK? Insolvent. The European Union? Tapped out. How about the U.S. manufacturing industry? Nope. Gutted and transplanted to China, chasing the cheapest cost of production. So where is the money going to come from? Perhaps the Libyan swag will pay for it? Nope. Not enough. The dollar is being deliberately trashed as I type. We are in a major depression caused by a credit squeeze.
Seems unlikely the banks will finance major expenditures when they are still re-capitalizing. So that leaves my friends the 'International central bankers' who will no doubt magic up the required funny money. Of course they will. And we will be taxed to pay for it, even though we are tapped out too. Never mind. We're saving the earth. A noble cause.
There's also the tricky issue of WWIII which the criminal Empire is doing it's best to trigger, starting in the Middle east.
I wouldn't invest in plant, machinery or anything else until all this uncertainty works through the system.
Would you?

If MediaMatters has to put something as a question that means they can't spin it. Huntsman referred to a study, Fox said there fact checkers said his reference was accurate. But the study was a steaming piece of garbage. Basically a scientist who publicly admits he's politicized the issue told his colleges if they agree with him to do the survey. What a surprise, most of those who agreed with him before the survey gave answers that reflected that. Read about it here: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=18677&p=224940#p224905STEVE G wrote:Did Fox Actually Acknowledge The Scientific Consensus On Climate Change?

Nope. It's estimated that US companies are sitting on more than $2 trillion in cash waiting for less uncertainty. The results of 2012 elections may change that.MrPlum wrote: I wouldn't invest in plant, machinery or anything else until all this uncertainty works through the system.

If one believes China's numbers (can't imagine any reason why they'd lie) their manufacturing sector is the world's largest. That ascension to #1 was buried deep in the pages of the left partisan press because it happened in March of this year. Geez, after complaining so long and loud about loss of manufacturing how could they point out that all the time they were harping the US was still #1?MrPlum wrote:How about the U.S. manufacturing industry? Will they stay #1? Why did china spend an estimated $75 billion (officially 25) on the 3 gorges dam? Engineering pride? Nope, they're running out of water and there was nothing easier or cheaper left to dam. Their 'one child' policy means they may run out of workers or at the very least will saddle the working couples with supporting 1 child and 4 parents, the so-called 4:2:1 problem. http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMhpr051833
Re: Peak Concern for global warming has Passed
Poor Al Gore. He knows he is losing the crusade so he played the only card left in the liberal playbook: liken those who don't agree with him and the climate alarmists to racists.
As usual, he flopped. The story broke on the 28th. According to Google News the peak interest in his comments occurred on the first day, when a mere 40 online news sources mentioned it.
Most of the news sources extracted the written equivalent of sound bites, but I like the full quote (from http://dailycaller.com/2011/08/28/gore- ... s-racists/:
“I remember, again going back to my early years in the South, when the Civil Rights revolution was unfolding, there were two things that really made an impression on me,” Gore said. “My generation watched Bull Connor turning the hose on civil rights demonstrators and we went, ‘Whoa! How gross and evil is that?’ My generation asked old people, ‘Explain to me again why it is okay to discriminate against people because their skin color is different?’ And when they couldn’t really answer that question with integrity, the change really started.”
The former vice president recalled how society succeeded in marginalizing racists and said climate change skeptics must be defeated in the same manner.
“Secondly, back to this phrase ‘win the conversation,’” he continued. “There came a time when friends or people you work with or people you were in clubs with — you’re much younger than me so you didn’t have to go through this personally — but there came a time when racist comments would come up in the course of the conversation and in years past they were just natural. Then there came a time when people would say, ‘Hey, man why do you talk that way, I mean that is wrong. I don’t go for that so don’t talk that way around me. I just don’t believe that.’ That happened in millions of conversations and slowly the conversation was won.
Funny Al should bring this up. His father, Senator Albert Gore Sr. of Tennessee, voted against the keystone legislation of the national civil rights agenda, the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Didn't stop him from being re-elected in a heavily Democratic state.

Exxon should perhaps be careful. News ticker yesterday that Russiam authorities stormed BP's offices there. Have found nothing more on the story as of now. Pete

A bit tongue in cheek:
Climate Catastrophe Forces Perry to Temporarily Suspend Denying Climate Catastrophe
Sadly, the new outbreak of massive wildfires in Texas has forced Gov. Rick Perry to return home and temporarily suspend his efforts educating voters that global warming is really "all one contrived phony mess that is falling apart under its own weight."
Perry cut short a visit to South Carolina where he was campaigning for the Republican nomination for president. He also canceled a campaign trip to California.
The wildfires, unprecedented in history, are the result of a massive drought, also unprecedented in history, and a massive heat wave, also unprecedented in history, which has already caused over $5.2 billion in agricultural loses.
Perry has been using his campaign trips to cast doubt on the whole idea of global warming, and to promise not be spend taxpayer money on climate change research or policy: "I don't think from my perspective that I want to be engaged in spending that much money on still a scientific theory that has not been proven and from my perspective is more and more being put into question."
Given that the global warming-caused wildfires are zero percent controlled and rapidly expanding, Perry said it was too early to say whether he would be able to attend Wednesday's GOP debate in California and continue his important work of denying the existence of global warming.

This is exactly the kind of "guess at it junk science" that turns people off the cause... stay away from the Huffington Post... they definitely have a set of agendas that are not "fair and balanced" at all, and rarely print anything in real context with any real proof. They have been called out on printed lies many times and the editors just say they have a lot of people contributing and they can't possibly check all the facts of all the articles. The only good thing I can say about them is that in the past they have retracted or removed a few articles that were proven to contain blatant lies after they were caught.global warming-caused wildfires

Re: Peak Concern for global warming has Passed
Poor Al Gore. Check out his latest project at http://climaterealityproject.org/ Gotta love the purpose of the event: "We will offer a round-the-clock, round-the-globe snapshot of the climate crisis in real time. The deniers may have millions of dollars to spend, but we have a powerful advantage. We have reality." As if anecdotal evidence was worth anything. He's not even pretending anymore that there is any science behind him. This is a classic tactic of the American leftists: We didn't convert you yet, so we'll just repeat the message louder and show you more people we call victims.

No one here pays much attention to what is said about the subject in the US anyway due to the fact that that it's become too much of a party political issue.

Re: Peak Concern for global warming has Passed
News coverage of global warming has declined over the years in frequency and prominence for three reasons: 1) as Steve G said, it's become a political party issue, 2) There is little additional information which is news worthy, 3) The public opinion high water mark was passed. The only reason it's not a dead issue is the American left believes the only reason they can't convert people to their beliefs is they haven't delivered their arguments with enough frequency, volume or urgency.STEVE G wrote:No one here pays much attention to what is said about the subject in the US anyway due to the fact that that it's become too much of a party political issue.
