What are you seeing?

Post by Chas »

Just what are you seeing Pet?

A lot of this thread is just about getting some information here. .in the almost complete lack of anything but rumors and hints and the odd tidy up here or there.

The rest of it is along the lines of. .if they are making improvements to Hua Hin for the conference and have a budget, why not make a few that matter?

Both are legit topics for discussion certainly.

There are already a fair few reports coming in of the police hassling locals and tourists in Takiab.

The beach restaurants have been ordered to close, sun loungers have been confiscated and there have been road blocks and shakedowns of foreigners in the area.

The u-turn under the flyover now has a check point and there is one over the hill on the pala-u road. Expect more on this road and any road coming into the city over the coming days.

Buks,
Do you know what kind of shakedowns? I sometimes walk the beach to Takiab and come back by songthaew. Never take my passport with me. Are the cops looking for that sort of thin because there is strictly speaking a fine for not carrying it all times here?

I live in Avalon and they have a road block right in front of us plus on on the other side of the temple on the main road and they are shaking down Thai's. Pat downs and searching vehicles, and under seats of motor bikes.
ignored me.

Assuming that I make it past the three hundred road blocks between the Big Mango & HH, I'll be back on Friday night.

Mr. C

Do you think that there may be a road block between your place & the lodge? :banghead:

It's Probably going to get tighter..

I couldn't get into any Thai web site this morning; Bangkok Post, HHAD etc. bit worrying, anyway seems ok now. but all i could find was the BBC as copied below:-

Thousands of supporters of ousted Thai leader Thaksin Shinawatra have taken to the streets of the capital, Bangkok, to call for the government to resign.

The red-shirted demonstrators, who say current ministers are stooges of the army, are threatening to blockade Government House for three days.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has moved his cabinet meetings to the southern resort of Hua Hin.

The protests come as Thailand prepares to host a regional political summit.

Leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) will gather for a three-day meeting in Hua Hin on Friday.

All schools on Petchkasem road are closed on Friday.

I know its only rumour at the moment but there are also reports of downtown bar closures expected from Friday to Monday.

My advice: get out of Dodge!

hi there U'all HHAD Fellas friend and Homies!

The rumors aboot them bar closures during the ASEAN meetings would be a bummer for local business. I know many Journalists go to bars after a hard day of meeting coverage for a Beer or 2 two and exchange Ideas with other fellow Journallist. Binthablok would be quite empty but I really hope the opposite would be tbd case

Don't you believe it, I'm sure the powers that be would be happier to have the Journalists holed up in the Hotels for the duration, rather than let them report on the more interesting After Dark side of Thailand and Hua Hin.

In the year of her Majesty's 77'th birhday it is proposed, and contested, that Hua Hin becomes the 77'th province. Go for it!!!!!!!

Just been for a little drive around, more road blocks are cropping up, some manned some not. There are also signs in Thai stating that the police will be closing some of the major in-roads to Hua Hin over the four days, they don't specify which roads.

Update: the wife went out the morning and they're right in front of our compound. stopped her, patted her down, searched the bike, wanted to know why she had no ID? where she was going? she said "i live right here why I need ID to go get som tam? why you stop me I no wear red shirt"

they had a number of Thais lined up for searches and questioning.

so, closing the beaches, the bars, the markets, some roads, and all the parking in town is good for HH ? Exactly who in HH is going to do well out of this ?

Its going to make any tourist here decide not to come back next year, and they will also tell there friends as well.

How many feet does thailand have left to shoot ?
