Hi, I'll be in Hua Hin at the end of April for 10 days or so, I've fished a bit in Thailand before and ama fairly experienced fisherman. I see you have an all inclusive package which appeals to me. Is there any scope to use a fly rod if I bring one, 7wieght, or would it not be up to the job? Also how busy is it likey to be end of April, I fancy a go for the Arapaima!

Fly fishing has successfully been used at the Lodge, and subject to space you can use your tackle.
It is normally quiet at the end of April so your chances of using it are good.

However - this would be at your own risk - an Arapaima on any fly tackle would be a recipe for wreckage in my opinion.

Pacu, Suwai, Rohu, have all been taken on fly + one Amozon Redtail, which successfully smacked up the customers' rod

You have been warned

Thanks, yeah Ive caught Arapaima before, wasn't planing on targeting them on the fly, just some little stuff for sport! But would like to target some big stuff too.
Is there anywhere around that has freshwater skate?

We have a specimen of Himantura chaophraya - Giant Freshwater Stingray – or as the Thai call it - Pla Kabeng Nam Djut
We put two of these as very young specimens (About 30cm across), into the bottom pond just over 3 years ago (November 2009). Within 48 hrs one was found dead – either because of sensitivity to water change or due to a mauling from the Pacu…………….
The other one was witnessed by me (and it had grown a bit – but difficult to determine by how much), cruising the edge of the bottom pond in Feb 2011 and to the best of my knowledge is still in there.

It has never been caught

Further shock horror

At 2.34pm on Friday June 20 2008 I posted

Holding my breath in anticipation :)
Well I almost ran out of breath

Mrs.T called me last night and confirmed that AT LAST the final 900+m of road to the Lodge is in the process of being 'blacktopped' 8)

Of course it will only take a fleet of grossly overloaded 10 wheelers to rut it when it's finished - T.I.T.

True what they say - everything comes to he who waits :rasta:

Guess the tea money worked

Hi Terry

A visit to your place is long overdue so am hoping to be their shortly. Just one question though........ When I pop around I'll have my wife, her Mom, and our 3 kids with me, but I'll more than likely be the only one fishing............is this allowed? With them being Thai, my guess is they'll spend most of their time eating at your restaurant rather than keeping me company.....lol.

Cheers

Hi Takiab

I'm sure you'll all be more than welcome.
I've been to the lodge many times and never picked up a fishing rod yet - it's a very good place just to chill out and have a drink and something to eat. Terry even has a kids' playground there.

Absolutely no problem at all - that's one reason why we built the kid's playground as Barry says below

Barry - A fishing rod does not have the same qualities as a wine glass - but then you know this already

Yep had two visits to the lodge last week and on the second one we had trouble getting past, but our friend has a 4x4 so a little bit of off roading required.

I have now been to the lodge 5 times, you don't have to be good at fishing to enjoy.
Before my first visit best fish i had ever caught was 2KG and on that first visit
I hooked a 15KG Siamesse Carp and also a 6KG carp and loads of Catfish.

Now apart from fishing and ice cold beer :D you get a lovely afternoon breeze off the mountains and it is so relaxing would recommend all day long always leave there feeling chilled and a little bit..........
