As of February 7.....

Over 100,000 Chinese tourists still in Thailand, according to Immigration Bureau

https://www.thaipbsworld.com/over-10000 ... on-bureau/

There are currently more than 100,000 Chinese tourists and long-stayers in Thailand, including 2,038 who came from the Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, and 91,688 from Guangzhou, which is close to Wuhan, Pol Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang, Commissioner of Thailand’s Immigration Bureau told a news conference today.

1,004,067 Chinese people arrived in Thailand between January 1st and February 6th, and 889,567 have already returned home.

During the same period, there were 23,933 arrivals from Wuhan and, of these, 21,895 have departed. Of the 103,944 arrivals from Guangzhou, 91,688 have already left Thailand.

Pol Lt-Gen Sompong said tourists from Wuhan and Guangzhou are the focus of stringent health screening on arrival in Thailand, as well as random follow-up checks to make sure they have not developed symptoms since arrival. One visitor has been isolated for closer observation and to await results of lab tests, he added.

The immigration Commissioner said that most Chinese visitors still in Thailand arrived before the viral outbreak in Wuhan.

Those who cannot return to China, due to travel restrictions, have asked to extend their visas and the Immigration Bureau has arranged for medical personnel to carry out health checks, so they can isolate and treat anyone found to have fever, said the Commissioner.

Thai maths at it's best:
There are currently more than 100,000 Chinese tourists and long-stayers in Thailand, including 2,038 who came from the Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, and 91,688 from Guangzhou, which is close to Wuhan, Pol Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang, Commissioner of Thailand’s Immigration Bureau told a news conference today.

Of the 103,944 arrivals from Guangzhou, 91,688 have already left Thailand.
So are they here or already left?

"Five Britons have tested positive for coronavirus in France, local health officials have confirmed.
Four adults and a child were diagnosed with the virus in eastern France, including a British national who recently returned from Singapore.
The French health minister said they had been staying in the same ski chalet in the Haute-Savoie region in the Alps.
A total of 11 Britons staying at the chalet have been hospitalised in Lyon, Saint-Etienne and Grenoble."

The Public Health Ministry reported seven new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday, including three Thais and four Chinese

One of the cases was part of the group of 138 evacuated from China's coronavirus epicentre
The other two Thais had exposure to tourists.

Among the four Chinese, three are members of the families of previously reported cases, while the other is a tourist from a "risky area" in China.
https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... ases-found

That's moved us up from 5th place to 4th.
One more recovered making that total to 10 with 22 in hospital.

I'm sure there'll be more. This virus is here for the long haul but so far it is pretty much confined within China.
In another report, a prediction that a vaccine, still under development will be perfected during 2021.

Start of another day in the 'End of the World' saga. Figures updated at 08:10 Thai time today:

37,552 confirmed cases ( up 2,674, (6,196 (16.4%) in critical condition)

Deaths: 813 (up 89)

2,685 recovered. (up 600)

Death rate has passed SARS and is expected to pass MERS. All but 2 are in China, 98% in the Hubei province.

Some 'experts' are predicting the fatality % as being lower than 'flu which runs at around 1% and the coronavirus, outside of Hubei expected to be 0.6%. Of course that's just speculation as until this has passed over, the rate isn't known.
It does seem to be gathering pace.

This virus is here for the long haul but so far it is pretty much confined within China......apart from those outlined below....might not be long with those numbers

There are currently more than 100,000 Chinese tourists and long-stayers in Thailand, including 2,038 who came from the Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, and 91,688 from Guangzhou, which is close to Wuhan

If you read that article, the numbers don't make any sense as I've pointed out earlier. One sentence is the one you quoted, i.e. 91,688 from Guangzhou. Then almost in the next sentence:

Of the 103,944 arrivals from Guangzhou, 91,688 have already left Thailand.

And they quote Guangzhou as being close to Wuhan when it's over 800 kms away or 10.5 hours drive!

So none of it makes sense.

Start of another day in the 'End of the World' saga. Figures updated at 07:30 Thai time today:

40,553 confirmed cases ( up 3,001, (6,494 (16.0%) in critical condition)

Deaths: 910 (up 97)

3,324 recovered. (up 639)

One thing to note is that the gap between deaths and recoveries is thankfully widening. Given that it's believed that there are many cases that have not been reported (which would add to the recoveries), the gap could be wider. Still a long way to go.

However, the deaths have now outstripped both SARS and MERS

According to a WHO press press conference (Friday) , based on 17,000 of those confirmed -

82% - mild
15% - severe
3% - critical
Growth factor is the factor by which a quantity multiplies itself over time. The formula used is every day's cases / cases on the previous day. For example, a quantity growing by 7% every period (in this case daily) has a growth factor of 1.07.

A growth factor above 1 indicates an increase, whereas one which remains between 0 and 1 it is a sign of decline, with the quantity eventually becoming zero, whereas a growth factor constantly above 1 could signal exponential growth
Based on the above, the growth has declined 3 out of the last 5 days.

None of the 'stats' can be relied on. It has been massive cover up operation in China, and Thailand are playing it down to protect their precious tourism industry.

You can't actually believe anything you read.

There are no 'positives' when stats are pulled out of a hat, but believe what you want as everyone else will!
