Mine is on the 8th (top) floor, if it gets up there I will be long gone! The under-croft car park always concerns me though. We are right on Klong Phrakhanong, and just downstream of the pumping station, the up stream side of which is "supposed" to be inside the flood control area. The high tides are a concern, as the Klong opens out into the river just near Klong Toei port area.

Maybe a good idea to stay in HH until after the 27th. Should be all over by then, or at least the clean up. Pete

The high tides are a concern
Does anybody know the date of the highest tide, and at what time it should be at its highest in Hua Hin please?

The water was higher than I'd ever seen it when I was at Khao Takiab the other day, and I'd like to see how high it actually gets.

The only tide-table I know is this one for Sattahip, but it can't differ much from this side of the bay me thinks: http://www.mobilegeographics.com:81/cal ... /5647.html

The highest I normally see it is during December and January when it can be impossible to walk the beach much further south than The Hyatt.

Thanks Norseman, I'll study that over breakfast tomorrow.

Lomu, you'd have struggled 2 days ago at high tide.

Don't know if this time of year is the highest tide but when the run off from the North meets the high tide of this month Bangkok turns into Asian Venice.

Time to get the canoes out and watch out for the crocs

This cycle BB the tides are peaking on Monday and Wednesday this coming week. From the reports Bangkok officials are really worried this time round given all the flood water coming down the river at the same time. Pete

^ Cool site, but I wish you could view more than 7 days to see a longer pattern.

It's D Day and they're very worried:

"The Bangkok Governor has asked Irrigation Department officials not to let out excess water from dams upriver, as the Chao Phraya reached a critical level in the capital yesterday.

Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra said Bangkok would be submerged if the flow into the Chao Phraya reached 5,000 cubic metres a second. The Pak Klong Talad station measured the river at 1.97 metres above mean sea level yesterday, with the current at 4,573 cubic metres a second....."

Full story: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/home/20 ... 40799.html

The up-country people won't be too happy with the attitude of 'let the flood hit me to save Bangkok'.

If Bangkok floods badly we'll witness yet another round of knee jerk reactions after the fact, then a mai pen rai, then nothing more until the next flood hits. Pete

EDIT: More about the blame game. http://www.nationmultimedia.com/home/20 ... 40800.html
