Was this Bang Saphan?
Yep, where it is usually much easier to get things like this done. Not anymore!

Right then...Where do I start..?
H.H. Immigration...Went there for my 'Letter of residence'..1000b, 2 letters cos needed 2 licences..plus about 160b for photos needed and the relevant photo copies to be done... The lady in the copy-office is the same one that worked at the old site..she's very efficient, be nice to her.
Next it's off to a doctors/clinic for a medical cert...I went (by reccomendation) to one on Pekky Rd near end of Soi 80..& bloody ripped me for 180b..100 b is the normal fee).
So then, in your folder you now have you fresh med-cert, your letters of residence c/w photos attached from H.H. Imm. a copy of your rental agreement, or relevant pages from a 'house book' (I had my original rental cert..they give you it back)
Next it's time to go find a computer & find the link/site for the Thai driving video you must watch, and answer Q's on..
( the link IS within these pages on this topic)
Watch the vid, answer 3 questions correctly and taa-daa...You are awarded a certificate with you personal number..
You need to print this off...preferably in colour (2 x copies-25b at 'Green Copy')

Right then you lot..THAT'S the ground work done.. Now comes my trip to Na-Yang testing station....

Rolled up there at 11.45
(Take 2nd U-turn at Na-Yang then 1st left..takes you straight to test centre from the main BKK/HH road)
On entering the building turn immediate right and right again up the stairs...
...Top of stairs enter area and turn left..1st desk you see on the left is where you wanna be.
OK, time to be humble, time to be polite..(cos I did not have an appointment for a test)...
The lady took all my paperwork, (including my 2 old/expired licences) gave it all a good dose of looking at..handed lots back simply for me to sign..Then told me to come back at 2.00...Simple as.

Went back outside, had lunch over at the makeshift cafe opposite & read stories on my phone till 1.45..
...Back upstairs to the 'Driving test room' and straight away was called over for my eye-test..one eye, then the other at about 10 paces for colour-blindness check.
Next the dreaded 'reaction test for brake reation time.. Now at this stage I have 4gotten to mention I was the only candidate in the room! The lady did a demo for me, I did the same, only one time, and that was it!
Paid 'em 750b, then photo-time..
Had to sit and wait 10 mins for my licences to be made-up after the guy in the corner of the room had taken a photo of me 1.45 went in..2.00 walked out..Done deal.
Yes it's a fair old ride on a m/bike there, but if ya gonna get a hassle-free result within a half hour, hey..it's worth it.
Yes I reccomend getting all the docs sorted 1st (any missing copies they will do there)
Yes, go about the same time as I did..It really was quiet there.
And yes..Be humble & polite to them..more-so if you're like me & had no prior appointment.

Thank you for taking the time to read all this & I DO hope it will help 1 or 2 of you out there... :thumb:

Today I think I have experienced something close to some kind of record in time spent in a Government Office. 5 year renewal of driver licenses, both car and motorcycle. From entering the front door at DLT in Pranburi until exit the same doors with two fresh new licenses, 15 minutes!!!! This also includes the brake test, color blindnes check and depth perception. Has anyone else made it in less time???

No que at any station/desk!

Went to the DLT Cha Am this morning to renew my 5 years DL without an appointment but was not as lucky as my husband who turned up there and renewed his in February easily(he went in the afternoon).
The lady took all the documents needed and asked me to come back Wednesday at 2pm as today and tomorrow were very busy because now many people book their day and time slot on internet.
If no appointment best bet is to go in the afternoon and avoid Mondays.

Re: Thai Driving License - change of house address

Post by Robinhood »

Has anyone changed the address after a house move? I got my Thai License at the Cha-am office.
Do I need an appointment? and which supporting documents are required? I'm guessing passport and Certificate of Residency?
If anyone has recent experience of changing the address on your license, this will be greatly appreciated.
