Responding to Buksi's post:
Agreed to a point. However, if the figures are grossly underestimated (moot point) then that would be shown in hospitalisations. Not everyone is asymptomatic.

I don't think any conspiracy theorist needs to predict a pandemic comes along every 20 years or so. Because history shows that it does.
Exactly my point, but some are looking for their 5 minutes of fame because
THEY predicted it would happen. They are the only ones who can see what is happening, and because their starter for 10 was right, everything else they are say will come true. Only they can see the future - if they're that good, why don't they just buy a lottery ticket?
Recent figures estimate 1.5 million annual deaths from tuberculosis, 1.4 million from diarrhoeal diseases, 1 million deaths from AIDS, 400,000 from malaria. Lower respiratory tract diseases are estimated to cause 3 million deaths annually.
Yes, nothing new about that. Work is being done to help that, but I agree more could be done, I don't disagree, but it costs money. Unfortunately, those illnesses don't have the support Covid has. Covid is new and is flavour of the day. Are you suggesting we ignore Covid, and let even more die? 2 wrongs won't make it right.
Brazil is not the worst anywhere. So far it has 248 deaths per million. The UK has 632 deaths per million. And it looks like Brazil has already peaked.
Brazil is just cranking up, and has a long way to go. I think that will be a true representation of whether the conspiracist theorists or experts were right or wrong. It is just a shame that thousands more have to die to prove or disprove a nut job's theory.

There's absolutely no sign of Brazil's numbers having peaked. On the contrary, they're steadily increasing.

All business to resume on July 1
https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... -on-july-1
PUBLISHED : 24 JUN 2020 AT 14:09
All businesses and activities suspended to control the spread of coronavirus disease will be allowed to resume on July 1 - including entertainment venues and "soapy massage" parlours.
Dr Taweesilp Visanuyothin, spokesman of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, announced the decision on Wednesday.
He said regulations had been drafted for the fifth round of resumption of business and activities "when complete relaxation will occur".
Businesses and activities to resume this time posed a high risk of disease transmission. Their closure had an insignificant impact on the overall economy, but some groups of people were in financial trouble because of it - including musicians and singers, he said.
Dr Taweesilp said schools will fully open. Restrictions on opening hours at malls will be lifted.
Pubs, bars and karaoke shops will reopen, but must close at midnight. Groups of visitors will be capped at five people, and will be prohibited from joining other groups. Sales promotion activities will be banned.
Video game parlours will reopen, but will not be allowed to sell food or beverages.
Premises offering a bath-sauna-massage service [aka soapy] will reopen on the condition that customers and staff wear face masks and observe social distancing - except during "bathing time", Dr Taweesilp said.
"Customers will use the Thaichana app when they check-in, or manually register their visit in a book," he said.
Staff would be regularly tested for Covid-19 and other related diseases.
At all these premises, the government will continue to require body temperature screening, the use of face masks, social distancing, regular cleaning, one-month of surveillance camera footage to facilitate disease investigation, and use of the Thaichana app for check-in and check-out.
At wet massage parlours, surveillance cameras would cover only public zones, Dr Taweesilp said.

Hmmmm........... Checking into a soapy - maybe there are times when I wouldn't want people to know where I was

.
I wonder how many will put their real names into the book?

We should not ignore Covid but it’s not a dangerous disease for the vast majority and I believe the overreaction to it could cost just as many lives. I don’t know anyone that has died or even had any serious symptoms from it. But I do know someone who’s cancer treatment was supposed to start just as the UK locked down and now he has been waiting months.
The Times reported this today:
The number of people waiting more than six weeks for MRI scans to detect diseases such as cancer has risen by 1,277 per cent in two months.
Figures from NHS England show that 840,742 people are waiting for diagnostic tests, of whom 468,622 have been waiting more than six weeks.

Healthy under-50s are more likely to die from a car accident or an injury than Covid-19, leading statistician says
Sir David Spiegelhalter said 959 out of 18million under-50s had died from Covid
Cambridge University statistician said over 80% had underlying health problems
He claims under-40s were more likely to die in car accident than by coronavirus
And for under-25s, the risk was lower than falling victim to the flu or pneumonia

I don't think 500,000 families would agree that it is not a dangerous disease. It is definitely dangerous IMHO, but maybe not as dangerous as some others.
I am in regular contact via Zoom with my UK family, many of whom are in the medical profession. They tell me that while mainstream hospitals have been concentrating on Covid, many of the other important duties have been getting passed out to private hospitals. Of course, they can't replace the mainstream hospitals, but my family leave me to believe important cases are not being ignored.
I guess different areas of the UK are being treated differently based on facilities available. I can only assume the 'experts' have given Covid priority because the need is now. Again from family, I know many mainstream hospitals are returning to normal, and they're playing catch up as fast as they can. Fortunately, this type of crisis doesn't happen every year.
It is no different to the triage line to get into A&E. We all go there because we think we need to see a doctor, and probably everything warrants seeing a doctor - they will deal with the most urgent life threatening cases first, and whilst probably just as serious, the danger isn't as imminent for the others. The 'experts' make the best decision they can.

Never mind the under 50's,under 40's and under 25's. Aren't they the lucky ones. However what about the older population, often within their own family that THEY have infected.
Leave it to Trump to claim "it's just like the 'flu". Let's not follow his thinking!

In the UK according to 12th June ONS figures
The majority of deaths involving COVID-19 have been among people aged 65 years and over (43,346 out of 48,538)
47% (20,482) of deaths occurred among people aged 85 years and over.
How many younger people are still living with their parents who are over 65.
How many families are living with over 85 year olds in the household.

During this lock down, many families have come together. My mother is 95 and my family in the UK certainly haven't left her to fend for herself. There are many families who have done the same.
How do you think these older people are being infected?

A large proportion of them came from deaths in care homes after the government ordered the hospital’s to move the the elderly into homes hence spreading the virus. I hope this is fully investigated in the inevitable enquiry.

Hospitals to care homes is one section. There are still thousands of 'older' people who are at home. They were told to 'stay at home' months ago. Most have been following that advice. However, they are still supported by their family and care workers. Social distancing and mask wearing only goes so far. Getting a 70 or 80 year old to wear a mask when they're already short of breath just due to their age.
Back to my earlier point. Even in care homes, the elderly are contracting covid from a younger demographic. That makes protecting the younger generation important and so helping to protect the 'oldies'. Or do we just let them die and put it down to 'collateral damage'.
