Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Iran becomes first country to report a second wave of coronavirus.
Iran is reluctantly confronting the possibility of a renewed political crisis as well as a health one after the latest figures showed the number of new coronavirus infections at a record high.
The government appeared to have brought the virus under control a month ago, but a second wave of the virus has steadily been gathering pace. According to data released by the health ministry on Thursday there were 3,574 confirmed new infections in 24 hours – an increase of 440 on the previous day.

I think that it was a foregone conclusion that a second wave would happen, but it's distressing now that it actually has.

I'm a little confused here. It's being realised that the closure of the parks due to covid19 has allowed the parks to restore themselves.Good news, for elephants and other wildlife...
"Elephants, Long Endangered by Thai Crowds, Reclaim a National Park
Considering the parks are closed annually for 2 to 3 months this must have already been noticed. Most of the parks close from October to December. Some close for shorter periods and some for longer. Khao Yai, I believe is closed from June to September.
I agree that nature needs to recover which is why the seasonal order to close annually was enacted some time ago.
Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
The headline is misleading as a 'second wave' is not a certainty. Much of the problem is opening the countries economy. Something that the US may see over the next few weeks.Iran becomes first country to report a second wave of coronavirus.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-heal ... SKBN23D0EOHealth officials have been warning of a second wave of the outbreak, but say a reason for the surge in new cases could be wider testing. One official said about 70% of the new cases in Tehran were among those who had traveled outside the capital in recent days.
Iran has been struggling to curb the spread of COVID-19 but authorities are concerned that measures to limit public and economic life to contain the virus could wreck an already economy already reeling under international sanctions.

Popcorn and drinks OK in theaters
Turns out you can have snacks and drinks in movie theaters after all. Authorities now say they never intended that popcorn and drinks should be banned for movie goers.
They have stressed, however, that they want everyone wearing a mask when watching a movie. And social distancing is still in force. – Manager Online
[Mod Edit] Link changed to actual source https://mgronline.com/qol/detail/9630000058509It is now generally accepted, barring some unexpected development, such as an unexpected easing of the virus threat worldwide, that tourist activity will not return to Thailand until at least October and even then, under tight regulation.

What a complete load of nonsense that headline turned out to be. Cases went up for one day and journalists were ready with their sensationalism.
Since then, the daily cases in Iran have been 2886, 2269, 2364, and 2043 respectively. I've stopped reading newspapers!

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
A big difference in the numbers being reported - the following reported by the Telegraph (UK). The final comment does make sense IMHO: -
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-heal ... -lockdown/
""Excess deaths in the UK have surpassed 63,500 since the end of March.
According to figures published by the Office for National Statistics this morning, there were 57,961 excess deaths in England and Wales between March 21 and May 29 2020.
The National Records of Scotland found there were 4,729 excess deaths in Scotland between March 23 and May 31, while the Northern Ireland Statistics & Research Agency put the figure for Northern Ireland at 906 excess deaths between March 21 and May 29.
Together, this means that the total number of excess deaths in the UK since lockdown was introduced has reached 63,596.
The number of deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK is now just under 52,000, according to the latest available data.
Epidemiologists say excess mortality - deaths from all causes that exceed the five-year average for the time of year - is the best way of gauging the number to have died from a disease outbreak because it is internationally comparable."
