I doubt it was fake news, in fact I seem to remember a spike of about 7 who returned from the UK proving positive recently. Whatever, they will be held in quarantine for 14 days. If the temperature was caused by something else, they will be released after 14 days.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
If those magic numbers that those on here love so much are correct, Thailand is one of the safest countries in the world with pretty much no Covid-19. So what do we expect from the junta? Another month of curfew ...
NSC proposes extending the SOE until the end of June
The National Security Council (NSC) proposed on Thursday an extension of the State of Emergency (SOE) until the end of June to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.
NSC secretary-general Gen Somsak Rungsita said on Thursday that the NSC will propose the extension to the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha, at its meeting on Friday.
However, the move will have to be approved by the cabinet next Tuesday before it can come into effect.
The SOE was introduced on March 26 and was intended to last until April 30. It was, however, extended by the CCSA to May 31.
If accepted, the SOE could be extended until the end of June. According to the constitution, the SOE can legally last up to three months.
Somsak said the proposal is based on preparations for the third phase of the business easing period. Some small and large businesses, including department stores, have reopened since May 17.
The CCSA will decide by the end of the month whether to introduce a third round of easing.
He said since the SOE contributed to Thailand’s success in containing the virus, the martial law should be extended to make sure that a second wave of infection does not occur within the country.
The proposal was given a nod of approval by representatives from the healthcare sector and the business sector who joined NSC’s meeting on Thursday, according to Somsak.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Thanks Big Boy, think they arrived back in the kingdom on Sunday or Monday, so thought the result might have been known and reported yesterday or today, assuming the tests were taken pretty sharpish after arrival in quarantine.Big Boy wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2020 1:22 pmI doubt it was fake news, in fact I seem to remember a spike of about 7 who returned from the UK proving positive recently. Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
If they weren't added to the cases yet, it was probably nothing more sinister than a common cold, but if Covid, it should raise its head within the 14 day state quarantine.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Worry is, working in tourism, if there are persistent 'imported' cases, even from repatriation flights, the flight ban is going to keep being extended indefinitely.
Not a complaint, as I think Thailand has handled things remarkably well on the whole, just a frustration when we are close to reopening hotels.
Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Yes, I think re-opening of the borders is the biggest fear for many of us. I know tourism needs it, but at what cost? The last thing I read was tourists would have to go into quarantine, so who will come? That was also repeated in a CCSA Daily Brief.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Is this the repatriation flight via Eva Air that you are talking about, that landed the other day with 250 passengers, from LHR? If so, passengers temperature was tested before, during and after the flight and there was safe seating on board. The next flight (Thai air) is on the 30th.
They will only enter the stats if tested and hospitalised.

Assume this was the inward/return flight of the weekly EVA flight to London that leaves Bangkok each Sunday.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Thanks, very interesting. Both legs of such flights have distance seating, so numbers travelling are limited and masks have to be worn. Considering those Thais returning to Thailand would have had to prove to be 'fit to fly' and as stated, temperature tests were undertaken at various stages before during and after the flight, it makes me wonder when they first started displaying high fevers and the value of all the precautions?DTHH wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2020 1:59 pm Presumably Caller, this one:

All of this is recorded on the UK Thai Embassy's facebook page, with pics of testing and the plane etc and all hail the glory of Thailand (translator needed).

Scrolling down a couple of posts on the Facebook page, see that it mentions the 'Fit-to-Fly' certificate would be issued free...just sayingcaller wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2020 8:08 pmThanks, very interesting. Another repatriation flight operated by Thai, TG917, on 30th May, I note...bankruptcy permitting I guess!

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
On May 15th, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in the US published its official estimate – 0.26%, although it doesn’t come right out and say it. Rather, it estimates the case fatality rate (CFR) for different age groups:
0-49 year-olds: 0.05%
50-64 year-olds: 0.2%
65+ years-old: 1.3%
Mean CFR: 0.4%
The CDC estimates that 35% of people who’ve been infected are asymptomatic, so to get the IFR from the CFR you have to multiply it by 0.65 – 0.4 x 0.65 = 0.26%.
So it’s official, folks: We’ve imprisoned over a billion people in their homes, laying waste to the global economy and causing untold misery and death in the process, to mitigate the impact of a virus that’s no deadlier than a bad bout of seasonal flu.
