Ratsima wrote: Thu Jul 22, 2021 3:57 pm I finally managed to get vaccinated yesterday at Phyathai 2 in Bangkok. It was the AstraZeneca vaccine. This after weeks and weeks of trying to get an appointment that would actually be kept. (The most egregious failure was In Korat where I registered with Maharath Hospital, got an appointment, showed up, filled up the forms, had the health check and then when I went to get a queue number they sent me home saying it was for Thais only; no foreigners.)

Last night I woke up at about midnight feeling absolutely awful: high fever, muscle aches, extreme hunger and a massive headache. I took an Iburprofen which made me feel a bit better but I don't think I ever went back to sleep. I got up at 4:00 AM, made a cup of coffee and ate a handful of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. After putting on my Apple Watch I noticed that my pulse was 80bpm. My normal resting pulse is in the low 50s and sometimes in the high 40s. So, 80 is crazy. After another Ibuprofen I felt well enough to do my normal cycling workout and then my normal weight training. But, after my wife went to work things went steadily downhill. Felt awful all day. I haven't been this sick since eight or nine years ago after an influenza vaccine. I've had one every year since and haven't got sick once.

At the moment I"m holed up in the bedroom with the aircon blazing and plan to stay until morning.

I realize that getting Covid would be a lot worse, but I was in no way prepared to be this sick.

And, damnit, it's my birthday.
That's sounds absolutely rough!!! Sorry to hear that, but happy birthday anyway.

Well, this isn't encouraging.
uk scientists back covid boosters as study finds post jab falls in antibodies
Scientists have backed proposals for Covid boosters in the autumn after blood tests on hundreds of people revealed that protective antibodies can wane substantially within weeks of second vaccine shots being given.

Falls in antibodies after vaccination are expected and do not necessarily mean people are more vulnerable to disease, but the researchers are concerned that if the declines persist the effectiveness of the vaccines may diminish.

The UCL Virus Watch study found that antibodies generated by two doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca and Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines started to wane as early as six weeks after the second shot, in some cases falling more than 50% over 10 weeks.

The researchers stress that both vaccines are extremely effective against Covid, but say the findings support plans for a booster campaign this autumn, particularly for those who were vaccinated early and with the Oxford/AstraZeneca shot. ...

I had AZ at Phyathai 1 on Sunday, I got lucky (so far), no real adverse reaction at all. Just a little sensitivity when I touched the area where the jab went in, which was very high on the arm, almost at my shoulder. 24 hours later that had cleared up. But I did struggle to sleep Sunday night, not sure why and just rested, finishing a book on the Monday, then drove back to Hua Hin on Tuesday morning.

The UK announced plans for a booster shot weeks ago. I suspect that will be the norm annually, but scientists say they simply don't know at this stage.

A booster is certainly planned in the autumn. I'd be surprised if it didn't become an annual thing, but who knows? I get a flu jab every year, and by next year they may come up with a vaccine for both. But will it be free? I get mine free although I don't get my pension yet because I have type 2 diabetes, but I think it's about £15-20 if you have to pay. And I don't know how many people in the UK have it done.

Where do you get the £15-20 from? Injections are free I thought. Would cost them more to treat than inject.
Woke up this morning breathing that's a good start to the day.

You get it free because you're an old fart  or...
The flu vaccine is offered free on the NHS to anyone with a serious long-term health condition, including: respiratory conditions, such as asthma (needing steroid inhaler or tablets), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including emphysema and bronchitis
I see free jabs are now available to all over-50s. Until last December it was only pensioners and those with long-term health problems.

I doubt if they would charge for the covid at the moment, The infection rate would need to be very low or zero before they could do that. The government have done well in a difficult situation, the biggest problem is people not having injections or wearing masks.
You are correct on the old fart :tsk: and thank you for having doubts. I also qualify with the medical conditions as well.

I seem to be mostly back to normal this morning. Slept long and hard last night. (Didn't wake up in time to get my wife moving on her morning run.) No more fever, or headache, etc. My pulse is still slightly elevated. Still troublingly hungry.

Caller mentioned soreness at the injection site. I didn't have that, but I'd gladly trade some upper arm pain for what I went through yesterday.

According to this letter published by the Thai Enquirer, the Thai army has requested priority for the Moderna vaccines for its personnel and their families.

I guess they need to be protected before they go out to shoot students. :guns:

I read that Sakhon Nakhon is also asking for Moderna for their top officials.

And, so, the jockeying begins.
