hi all, I came to HH first time in Nov 05, and fell in love w the place. I had looked around for a second residence for a couple of years; south of Europe, US, Turkey, Marocco, etc. but not found anything I REALLY liked. Have been back 4 times since then, and plan on living in HH part-time -it's a fantastic place.
Am an expat female viking, based in Belgium and traveling all over for the past 10 years. Two kids, 16 & 18yrs, my boyfriend is Belgian. Looking forw to meeting you all in the usual wateringholes. I am leaving the "second-hand UK weather" (no offence) behind today and flying out -can't wait! 8)
The site is great-thanks!

Just like to say a BIG thank you to everyone who posts on HHAD, and particularly the moderators - a great site.
My wife and I have just enjoyed a fantastic 3 weeks in Hua Hin, thanks in no small part to all the useful information I found on HHAD before we went. Really felt I knew the place - it was a bit weird talking to the ex-pats about Hua Hin, and already knowing quite a bit about some of the issues, a bit like suddenly finding yourself in the middle of a soap opera you'd been watching!
Definitely hoping to be back out again next year.

Seano,

Glad you & your wife enjoyed your time here. Loved the soap opera analogy - completely understand the feeling! Anyway, welcome to the board!

Hello everyone! Matthew here! I've made a few posts in the past, but have never really introduced myself. Discovered Huahin while on leave from my teaching job here in coolish Yukon, Canada. Have been back three times and very much looking forward to semi-retirement amongst your bars, restaurants, shops and stalls, someday. Next possible visit will be Xmas time. Counting the days!

Hi Dawn,

Actually, one of the weird things was someone trying to persuade me to sponsor one of your dogs! I knew from the postings on here what a tough time you've had recently, but you've obviously got some great supporters in Hua Hin rooting for you.

Sorry about that. Can't imagine who that was! Of course we need support, but we do try to stay away from the hard sell! Hope it didn't bother you. :)

This is a good one as I don't know the answer, what is the difference between Yukon, Canada and Yukon, Alaska? Where is the line?

Welcome aboard Matthew. Pete

Actually, there is no "Yukon Alaska". There is the "Yukon Territory", which is part of Canada and right beside it, there is the magnificant state of Alaska. I have been there many times: big fish, big bears, big birds, and some very beautiful and rugged women. Anyway, could snow here this month..... Cheers!

Hi, hope there's room for one more Scotsman in Hua Hin. Just came for a few days visit last month and ended up buying a house. Plan is to move in March. Will no doubt be seeking advice on here for all sorts of stuff.

My first visit to Hua Hin was in 1989 when it was still a charming, quiet fishing village and low key resort :)

My second visit some fifteen years later was in 2004 – unfortunately much of its old charm has been lost in the intervening period with (IMHO) some absolutely dreadful high rise buildings now blighting the area :(

I now spend about five months each year in Thailand, mainly in Udon Thani in the North East where golf is still available at a reasonable price.

During my five months in Thailand I now visit Hua Hin for two or three weeks to play some different golf courses, get some really fresh sea food and have some time by and in a sea where I don't get hypothermia if I go swimming :D

The only thing I cannot weigh up with the beach at HH is those volunteer police horses.
I originally thought they may be monitoring beach traders or bag snatchers, but they just seem to give kiddies a ride.
When the tide is in there is very little room around the parasols.
