PAD would not run for election
I don't know the parties at all but if they are not planning to run for election why are they doing all this ? Are PAD leaders in bed with the Democrat leaders and will benefit that way ?
As we can see from their actions it's not about upholding democracy for me. I believe paying someone 100 Baht for their vote is more ethical than 'buying' their vote with a promise of tax cuts or free healthcare knowing that you will not deliver it. And much more ethical than smashing someones skull in to rectify it, although I'm sure PPP would do the same if the roles were reversed.

There is a lot of background on this that does not get into the media - Sondhi and Thaksin are arch rivals so the PAD will do everything in their power to oust the government that supports Thaksin. Samak has also pissed off a lot of people during his shady career in politics.

PAD and the Democrat party are two entirely different entities. I agree there is nothing democratic about what is happening now as there is nothing democratic about lying to the rural majority because you know they'll take a few baht for a vote.

That's explains it a lot more for me, cheers.

Lets hope it gets sorted one way or the other asap with least bloodshed and damage to their countries reputation, what's left.

sargeant wrote:The biggest problem with this country IMHO is that niether the election commission nor the judiciary are impartial or independant

Since the junta Appointed a new election commission the only party banned is TRT and now they are trying to ban the PPP the only MPs banned are TRT and PPP only one Democratic MP has been banned

PAD supporters are massively pro democratic party voters and if the Democratic party had the country at heart they would stand up and say stop but they have not
But TRT and PPP paid for votes and that's against the law.

Didn't the judiciary show up the two million baht 'bribe' publicly, then put the guys who tried it on in jail for six months on contempt of court, after that I think they will then be tried for corruption and maybe spend another five years behind bars.

Puchimon sentenced to three years in jail for lying to the court, as well as two of her cronnies/family.

Thaskin does a runner and loses twenty million baht in bail money because he knows he is on his own and can't find anyone to take his money and 'sort' the situation out for him.

I have to disagree a bit with this comment..

So did the democrats buy votes but werent caught (maybe cos no one was looking at them)
The Junta appointed all democrats to run the country and the democrats appointed a new election commission and judiciary
Because MrT had both of them in his pocket before so one wrong is replaced with another wrong
Just because they are making a stand against MrT and TRT and PPP does in no way make them independent or impartial lets see how many democrat MPs get nailed for buying votes before i make that leap
and as Buksi says its all a bluddy silly merry go round and will go back the other way sooner or later
As for MrT he is done finished this PAD have no interest in democracy at all just raw power is all they want and are using MrT to get it because they couldnt win a vote just IMHO

Sarge you will never accept the fact that you've sided with two governments of Thailand that have been corrupt. You now call the JUDICIARY corrupt as well. You sound more like Thaksin and Samak every day.

PAD rallies in Bangkok have been for one reason, to try and force Samak to resign. Seems to me, that after the release of the EC's report today, he should do exactly that. Then the PAD, police, army and everyone else can go home and leave the elected politicians to decide what to do next.

As far as everything else your supposing. Well unless they change the constitution, it's not going to happen. Don't forget, if Samak hadn't tried to change the constitution to aid his party, friends, Thaksin and himself, PAD probably wouldn't have taken the strong stand that they have.

Me, I couldn't give a flying fuck who is in charge, as long as there is some kind of stability, and the government of the day plans for, and takes note of them that have, or will be, investing in this country.

With an eight month low season and a four month high season, those of us with a business here in Hua Hin cannot afford for this game of 'showmanship' to carry on, Samak, Sonti et all need to stop this.

The MAN needs to make a statement, appeasing all Thais to come together for the greater good of Thailand. Show the world that this is over with. Otherwise it will be low season, then NO season, then No investment.

I have not sided with either govt or any before them i am only siding with democracy and the poor
i am also against hypocricy as well whats good for the goose is good for the gander if PPP or TRT MPs get thrown out for vote buying thats fine by me as long as the people doing the looking and throwing are doing it even handedly. All partys buy votes it is bulk standard and no i dont agree with it for any party
As for Mr T i said wait and see for his trial well i have waited i have seen and it is exactely what you saw
I am just as sure he was guilty under this judiciary as he was under the previous judiciary (which he would have got away with) Guilty in one Not guilty under the other its a joke

Me, I couldn't give a flying **** who is in charge, as long as there is some kind of stability, and the government of the day plans for,

these are my words added "the advancement of the Thai people in peace and harmony"

Appeals Court rejects PAD's plea against arrest warrants

The Appeals Court Tuesday rejects an appeal by the nine leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy, seeking to annul their arrest warrants.

The court decided that the arrest warrants were properly issued in line with the Criminal Procedural Code's Artcle 68 so the court rejected the appeal.

It could make things worse if that is possible
It has absolutely nothing to do with election commission or vote buying
It also has to be seen if and what happens
if they have broken the law so be it and if they get found guilty it will be interesting to see if they get prison time remember there is a person that has died as a result of all this mess
Until then i will eat chicken

Both CNN and BBC are showing some nasty video today from last night. Some men getting ripped from their motorcycles and beaten badly with sticks and iron rods until they are motionless. No clue which side was which. :( Pete

Pete,
The ones wearing red are pro government.

Image

The ones wearing yellow are PAD.

Image

The ones wearing brown took the night off to let the ones in red earn their money - supposedly.

Another good summary of the recent events can be read on today's Asia Times:

http://atimes.com/atimes/Southeast_Asia/JI03Ae01.html

There is a lot more to this situation than appears to the casual observer.
