American football, "world" football and Oz footie are totally different games. I must say that I enjoy them all, add rugby to that list also.

I go for the World Cup as the greatest sports spectacle though.

i've watched it a few times, but to be honest not managed to watch a full game, far to much stop & start for me.
americans are brought up on nfl, baseball, basketball & ice hockey.
in the uk most kids start playing either football (soccer to you americans!), rugby or cricket.
it's each to his own i suppose.

just got to add, if a 6ft 6in athlete charges into you at pace, it's gonna hurt whichever sports field you're on

It's very technical with lots of tactics

Hit the nail on the head Jaime, if you pardon the pun. If you know the rules it's one of the most tactical and gripping sports to watch - although the stoppages are a complete pain in the arse.

I'm a Scot but got into NFL about 20 years ago - reckon I know the rules/tactics/play calls etc, pretty much inside out - and that's the secret to enjoying it. Don't blame em, but guys who knock it just don't get it.

I reckon this year's Superbowl is gonna be a classic. Pity I prob won't get to see it - anyone know what time if kicks off Hua Hin time?

I watched both conference championship games and all the timeouts, breaks, two-minute warnings, commercial breaks etc were edited out and it was great, pretty well non-stop play.

For fast, full-contact its hard to beat hockey (ice hockey to those who confuse it with the girl's game played by poofs with a ball and funny curved sticks).
Rammed into the boards by a 220 lb. defenseman skating at close to 30mph and having to stop hard rubber pucks fired at 120mph is not for the faint-hearted.
I did like the bumper sticker I saw once though:
"Rugby players eat their dead".
I also liked "You don't beat Wales, you only score more points"

Agree with you about the edited games, watched a few of them this season and makes a helluva difference. Hope it's a good game!

I agree, Commercialism is ruining most things in the USA. Sell, sell. sell! World football is surely superior in that respect. I think the average play in gridiron takes about 6 seconds. then its 30 seconds to get the next one off. Factor in the strategic timeouts time outs and commercial time outs and 60 minutes of gridiron takes about 3 hours of which precious little time is actually playing time. only advantage is it gives one a lot of time to take a pee, grab another frosty, and BS.
