HHDRC to permanently close
Dawn
You and your team have done an amazing job over the years and so many dogs have been given the chance of a better life because of you. Don't ever think that you have failed, you have had to cope with the huge changes Hua Hin has seen recently which are obviously not for the better. This is a tough call for you to make, but keep your head high and please believe there are people in Hua Hin who have appreciated all of your hard work.

Hi Dawn, I echo all of the above posts and there is little more I can add apart from saying I agree and share the sentiments already expressed.
I actually logged on a few minutes after you made the OP and was so taken aback I decided that this was one to re-visit later!
But needs must, a decision has been made and its time to move on. That is a brave decision in itself. I wish you well. I'm going to visit HH in April, but I doubt now it will become my home, like it has yours, so I don't have that wrench to deal with.
I'm saddened to learn of the difficulties you have faced with the local ex-pat "nimby" community as you must be. I hope its not a pointer of what the future holds there?
I hope Ooy, our own little'un and I get the chance to meet up with you and yours at some stage, so please keep in touch and let us know where you are relocating to.
Regards,

Sad
This truly is terrible news.
But I agree with everyone's sentiments, and wish to to tell you..It's you that has been let down.
Words escape me,when I hear about the lack of support you've had.
For all the help, sympathy, and kindness you've given to these poor ,unfortunate dogs and pups...I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
May the "merit" you receive", shoot to the stars.

Hi Dawn
I am really sorry that you have been forced into this decision which must have been heart breaking for you, I know how much you love and know every single dog you have cared for.
As for failure nothing could be further from the truth, every single dog you have rescued and cared for has been a sucess and you must be proud of what you have achieved, it is obvious that many others are proud of you, I know I am.
For personal reasons I have re-located to Bangkok for the time being so have been unable to help you.
I wish you and your great little lad all the best for the best for the future.

If I were you Dawn, I would release all those dogs where they can bark at all the people who endlessly complain about stray dogs without lifting a finger to help the situation.
You succeeded in keeping HHDRC going far beyond what anyone else could have achieved, which is no failure in my eyes.
Good luck for the future, and I’ll see you both at Christmas if not before.

Me too, I just want to add to the previous posts. I´ve seen your dogs and I´ve seen the thessaban dogs. Yours are so marvellously cared about that one can´t believe they are or have been strays. You have taught us all a lesson on how to give dedication to what one does.

Damn! After all the ups and downs I was beginning to think things would be working themselves out.
It's a shame things couldn't of been better eh? Don't worry yourself over what could of been though. As my nanna used to say 'It's probably for the best.'
You're not the only one whose given Thailand a roll of the dice and ultimately had them turn on you. I've been there too and when its time to walk away its time to walk away.
Try and put it all behind you now and walk on into a new chapter of your life.
At least now you can relax and take things a bit easier eh?

closing of HHDRC
I am so sorry to hear about the closing, it must be devastating for you, Dawn. Please do not see it as a failure -you have put in so much energy and caring into the centre for the past years.
Remember that after cloudy skies and storms you will eventually see the sun shining again!
Wishing you all the best in the future

dawn,
you have not failed. you should be proud of what you have done.
all the glowing references you have received here are testamant to that.
when you walk away, you should do so with your head held high.
whatever your future holds, you should just embrace it with the same passion that you have shown over the previous years of your life.
then, without doubt, you will ensure a happy & bright future.
but , i think you already know that
happy days

Dawn
You were the first person to welcome me to the HHAD forum board. May I be one of many to welcome you to your next experience (whatever it may be).
Life is just a series of progressions. You gave the Dog Centre your best shot, and from reading various posts, it was a bloody good shot at that. When the emotion of the closing is over, sit down with your 15 dogs and get them all to give you a good lick and a paw on the back. Enjoy the memories and look back with pride. Alot of us are just drinking ourselves to the same inevitable end- you were actually doing something.
Good luck with your next move.
and to the other Moderators - I look forward to the announcement of the Dawn 'leaving town' party (if she does decide to leave). I would like to meet her in person sometime.
You get my University degree anytime.

A little update. I posted this on our website yesterday:
Update 23rd November 2007
As you will have seen, HHDRC was to close earlier this month. Through the efforts of various international groups and individuals, the dogs are still with us and safe.
We cannot yet be sure about the future, but there is now a chance that, with the help of these organisations and some Thailand based organisations, there might be a safe place for our existing dogs for the rest of their lives. HHDRC will no longer exist to rescue dogs or take in sick or injured dogs. That part of our mission statement no longer can exist. Even with help, we cannot take in more dogs. Our numbers must not increase beyond the level that we are at now.
In the future, more emphasis will be put on Canine Neuter & Release (CNR) projects, jointly with DogChance and other orgs and vaccination programmes, along with education. This is, we feel, the best way to help the maximum number of dogs in Hua Hin.
HHDRC’s existing dogs are still available for adoption and sponsorship and they will still need your support.
I cannot stress strongly enough that no more dogs will be taken in to HHDRC’s care. We will not accept dogs from anyone no matter what the reason, from this time on.
We thank everyone (orgs and individuals) for their support & for working towards giving HHDRC’s existing dogs a secure and safe future. All of us at HHDRC are unimaginably grateful for the work that people are putting in for our dogs. Thank you
The only thing I would add to that, for the benefit of those that know me, is that HHDRC will be continuing (if it does) without me. I'm staying as manager until we have a concrete plan in place & a salaried Thai manager & then I will be leaving, with the 15 dogs that I originally said I'd take. I aim to move from HH in February. I'm extremely happy that there is a chance (albeit slim) for the existing dogs to live their lives in safety & security, but I've decided that the best plan for littl'un and I is to move away & start having a proper life together. I want to start giving him the time and attention he so deserves.
I'll still volunteer for HHDRC until I go & will continue doing bits for them (PR & fundraising) via cyberspace.
Thanks for everyone's good wishes. I really appreciate it & some of your comments have helped me decide on a course of action that I feel to be best for littl'un & me.
