I have a privately owned condo, I have a blue book, but not a yellow one.
Do I need, or should I have a yellow one?
Thanks

Yellow book
Hi Winkie.
Yes, the Government rules are quite clear; farangs can only use a yellow book if you rent out your condo to a farang.
You use the blue book when you rent out to a Thai person.
I have never been asked to show my yellow book except when I bought my car. At that time I had not received my yellow book so I needed a statement from the police that I lived here.
I've been told by my lawyer that it's not very important to have the book, but the law is quite clear.
The point with the book, either blue or yellow, is to enter the name of the renter of your house/condo. Fair enough.
But if the renter is missing or just disappear then you are in big trouble.
You can not rent out your property as long as that person is missing.
The advise I've got is NOT to use the books for rental purposes because of this problem.
It's better to write a contract between you and the renter to avoid the book-problem.
Somebody else maybe know more about this than me, but that was a tip-off from my lawyer.

I intend to live forever - so far so good.
Just got back from HH and went to the Municipality Offices for clarification on the yellow book. They told me that there is no need for me to get one however if I did want one you need a letter from your embassy stating that your passport is genuine and then you take that letter along with all documents to the Municipality office and they will issue you the book. The guy I spoke to spoke good English and basically told me there was no need for the yellow book...so I'll stick with the blue one
