As long as I can enter all the details (and pay) well in advance and sail through immigration it's all good with me. Unlike the TM30 which you need to do after you arrive within 24 hours, as I understand

I've never filed a TM30 in the 25 years I've been here. Recently I've done my 90 day report at 2 different offices and both have said that a TM30 is not required.
Again, depends on which officer you speak to!

Also never filed a TM30.

This is an electronic travel authorization, which is in essence an easy way for the Thai govt to collect more tax and their sole motive for launching the scheme. It has nothing to do with America or non-imm visas or reporting, though I wish they'd digitize some of that - you could beat a whale to death with the stack of paper I have to produce every year to stay here.

If it's anything like the system implemented in Malaysia, I'm all for it!

1. Fill out ETA on your phone within 24hrs of travel. Receive email back confirming that is thas been accepted or click the link to correct any errors
2. Once you arrive, get of the plane and walk to the automated passsport scanning gates
3. Scan passport, look at camera
4. Gate opens and voila, welcome to Malaysia

Net result is a massive shortening of time to get from the plane door to the baggage carosel. Last trip from plane door to baggage collection at KLIA2 was about 15mins - passport cleaance was no waiting and 30seconds at the gate.
