The Rising Cost of Football on TV This Season

Yes, but supposedly capable of hosting TrueID as you can see if you follow the blue arrow. It was that, which persuaded me to purchase.

Will it still work on 15th September? Is it only affecting premium football services?
If you will be affected, you should see this:

The thing is, there are two different TrueID apps. One that runs only on an Android phone or tablet and one that runs only on an Android TV device.hhinner wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 10:48 pmTrue lock?Big Boy wrote:Yes, but supposedly capable of hosting TrueID as you can see if you follow the blue arrow. The one that runs on Android devices is an "all round" app with access to shopping discounts, True bills, special offers etc. The one for Android TV devices basically has only TV features, with none of the other stuff. In essence, it makes your device function like a True ID TV box.
While you can watch the TV channels using the Android app on an Android device, it isn't really best suited to doing that - at least in my experience/opinion. On the other hand, the Android TV app is only designed for watching TV and does a much better job of it (again, in my opinion).
Re: The Rising Cost of Football on TV This Season
@GroveHillWanderer Thanks for the clarification. I'll try it on my Android TV box.

This could be why True has hiked prices, its monopoly is about to get even stronger ...
EPL, envoy take aim at illegal streaming
The English Premier League has launched an anti-piracy campaign in Thailand as the new football season kicks off.
The EPL, in collaboration with the British Embassy in Thailand, is running its Boot Out Piracy campaign for the second consecutive year.
Thailand and Indonesia are the two countries in Southeast Asia to host the initiative, which aims to protect the intellectual property of Premier League live broadcasts and promote legal viewing.
Key stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies and other authorities, participated in discussions on the matter, and a special reception was held recently in Bangkok.
The event sought to raise awareness about the negative impact of piracy on the sports industry and reinforce efforts to safeguard exclusive broadcasting rights for Premier League matches in Thailand held by cable TV provider True Visions.
With an estimated 38.7 million Thais watching EPL matches through legal channels, the country remains one of the league's most passionate fan bases.
However, many fans still reportedly watch games via illegal streaming platforms.

If those figures and your prices are correct BB (astounded that half the population can afford it), True takes over 200 billion baht per year on football broadcasts.

Re: The Rising Cost of Football on TV This Season
Yes, very sorry, I meant to update the thread, but I've had an awful lot going on for a couple of weeks.
True have been playing silly buggers this season for a very good reason (of course the main reason is making money) i.e. they are putting an awful lot of effort into eliminating piracy. As far as I can see, their efforts are paying off.
I do pay the going rate for my TV, but I also keep a fairly close eye on pirate channels, just in case there is an oddball game that I have not paid for. I checked my usual pirate channels last weekend, and I could not get an acceptable feed. Yes, I could get low quality feeds in a language that could have been Martian for all I know, but nothing I would tolerate for more than about 5 minutes.
I personally support True's actions (didn't think I'd ever say that
), but they are gradually eliminating the freeloaders. My hope is that at least a few of those freeloaders will actually pay a subscription, which should:

- a. Provide more money to football.
- b. Hopefully get more supporters back on the terraces (if they don't pay).
- c. Ultimately reduce the cost of watching football on TV.

I doubt that most of your "freeloaders", which are mostly low-income Thais (not affluent foreign expats), will be able to afford True's profiteering subscription fees for what it has now turned into a luxury product (watching football).

Re: The Rising Cost of Football on TV This Season
I agree, but they did the freeloading when the product was sold cheaply, forcing AIS and 3BB out of the market. True now have little choice but to increase their prices accordingly to make up for last season's loss. The freeloaders can't have it both ways.
Believe me, I hate supporting True, but I can see where they are coming from.
I have been saying for many months something drastic is required to make Thai Football viable. True are trying to ease the situation. As caller has rightly said, the alternative is no Thai football on TV.

Re: The Rising Cost of Football on TV This Season
We seem to be mixing and matching Thai football with EPL in this thread. I think Bukso is talking about EPL and BB, Thai football.

Re: The Rising Cost of Football on TV This Season
Similar restrictions are being placed on EPL, which again is a reason for True's restrictions. The decent pirate football feeds are declining all around at the moment (I'm sure somebody will find another way). True's solution to stopping Thai League piracy has also been applied to EPL.
In my reply to buksi's post I started by writing about both Thai and English football, but then realised the advantages here only applied to Thai Football. I'm pretty sure True are leading the fight in Thailand against EPL piracy. The main pirate feed I've been using from England has been for Plymouth Argyle matches, which aren't generally available here. Thankfully, the links have stayed good so far.

Re: The Rising Cost of Football on TV This Season
True are leading the fight because they have the monopoly on EPL football, so stopping piracy means more money in their pockets!!
Re: The Rising Cost of Football on TV This Season
Yes, but they are fighting the complete piracy issue, which should have huge benefits for Thai football. If you read what I said earlier, I am not disagreeing with you.

Re: The Rising Cost of Football on TV This Season
I doubt the EPL are concerned about Plymouth games!
I personally doubt True are doing much more than paying lip service to EPL games. Sure, they would like to cut piracy out, but as said, most who use pirate facilities won't buy True as an alternative, because of the cost. It would be cheaper to go and watch in one of the many massive screen open air huge pubs that show live EPL and just pay for a beer.

Re: The Rising Cost of Football on TV This Season
Long may that last

Being a non-True customer i.e. I purely subscribe to the football, I have had to jump through many hoops this season for both EPL and Thai League. The exact same restrictions have been applied to both services to counter piracy.
I think you've said previously you subscribe to True, so I'd be very surprised if True customers have even seen the join. Getting my footie fix has been very frustrating this season, and quite expensive. Probably more expensive than becoming a True customer, which I was actually considering at one stage, but I found what is hopefully a long-term workaround to that.
