On May 9 you answered Kraka'a Dad when he asked what Straya meant and you said slang for Australia.
Can I as an oldie correct you.
Straya comes out when people in Australia don't open their mouth properly and the Aus sound does not come out- hence Straya

There a lot of places to go when your young. Hua Hin is a nice place to be if your slightly older and want peace and quite. Why do the young always want to be where the older people are? Im saddened with the influx of young 'oley oley oley' types. you have Phuket, Pattaya, Pii pii and all the rest why do you want to come to Hua Hin? Is no place safe for someone wanting peace and quite. Perhaps if we oldies go to Udon Thani the youngsters will follow and we can leave them there... he he he.
Its about time they stood on their own two feet and not followed the oldie crowd.

Unbelievable Randy, I honestly thought you were joking on the other post, now I realise that you really do have prejudiced views about younger people. Younger people are all 'oley, oley, oley', 'younger people don't want a quiet, peaceful life'. I've travelled around the world and had a lot of fun doing it, I still like fun, but if I want a bit more I go on a trip to Bangkok Koh Tao or Phi Phi, and by that I mean a good night out at a club, not shagging in Pattaya (never been there, nor want to), the rest of the time I'm quite happy living and working here and enjoying exactly the same things as people a generation or two older like myself enjoy. I know a handful of others like myself who have happily lived here in Hua Hin for longer than you, so please don't try and start a pathetic witchhunt agianst youngsters. Without trying to get too personal, could it be that you have a complex about a wasted youth?

Please tell me that your comments were at least half tongue-in-cheek, and I'll be happy to say that I've overreacted.

The good thing about Hua Hin for us not-young/not-old types (ie; in their 30's), is that as it's 'generally' full of old-gits, we thrity-somethings get to feel a tad younger.

My spelling? You seem to have read my user name as OLDMATE not how i actually spell it as OLMATE.


If you can read a dictionary Rosie the term Slang means-

STRAYA PRONOUNCED AND SPELT THAT WAY AS A CASUAL AND PLAYFUL WAY OF SAYING AUSTRALIA. USUALLY SPOKEN THIS WAY BY THE WORKING CLASS OF AUSTRALIA AT THE LOCAL PUB. ALONG WITH OTHER ONE WORDED WORKING CLASS SLANG LIKE- "COBBA", "AVAGO",
"SH*THOT" JUST TO NAME A FEW.

I may not spell good English rosie but that might have something to do with finishing school when i was 16 and doing an apprenticeship.
Im a tradesman and i think that most of my customers are more concerned with the fact i do a good job of fixing there vehicle than how well i spell or string together a written sentence.
Do you own a car Rosie? What would you rather, me being able to spell proper and string out a sentance or rip you off and do a poor job of repairing your vehicle.

Olmate. just used the spell checker and Oxford Dictionary, and low and behold "xxxx" appears as a name of a Queensland beer for Aussie's who cannot the spell the word beer.
