I declined her kind offer and said I would rather she remove them all at once. She very nearly refused, but I assured her I would be fine.

On my next visit, I got sat down and was given I don't know how many injections, and a few minutes later the bloodbath started. Seriously though, even though she had to make an incision to get the one out, I never even saw a drop of blood, and neither did I feel a thing.

Whenever I go to HH I always get to the dentist and touch wood have never had a problem. My latest visit was to the dentist in Phetkasem (July) just up from MV - could not fault them.

Big Boy, I should mention though that it took me almost a year to get used to eating with new trouble free removable teeth. In fact, it's the only reason I haven't yet had all my lower ones removed. I will be getting them all removed though, and once again, they'll all come out in one visit to the good doctor.

To add some balance the general state of dental care in Thailand is excellent. One social thing. Dentistry is regarded as a very prestigous career for woman and so many of the dentists are young women from Hi-So families.

After referrals etc the quoted price when up and up in Australian dollars.

I still went ahead and had it done. Full anaesthetic and trial fitting the new teeth on implant pins the same day then home. I can say I was so drugged up for four days at home. I had no pain just swelling. On reflection, while expensive, it was a good outcome.

My bootom are are fine except for one that needed crowning and the dentist had a high tech computer teeth mapping and ceramic milling machine to make a good fitting crown. I have/had chalky teeth so dental decay has always been a battle.
Where did you have this work done?
Bristy, I had it done in my home town near Sydney. I had just been made redundant and 'forced to retire' With a comfortable handout after 35 years I gave a biggish tax donation. The implant cost was offset by private health insurance and tax medical claim rebate. I had considered going to Bangkok for the work. The operation had a complication of intubation (tubes up the nose) that caused required extra work on nasal passages. Glad I stayed at home. (don't snore anymore).
Thanks JimBob. I was hopefully looking for a solution here in Thailand. I know that I have to bite the bullet soon (excuse the expression) I'm dreading it. If anyone else has a good experience BKK - HH please let me know.... I'm terrified of dentists. 10 years since last visit....

Modern dentistry is now far removed from that of 30-40 years ago when trips to the 'school dentist'
usually resulted in gas and an extraction. Today it's all about saving teeth, extractions being the last resort.

I can easily accept this as a statement of fact.... It must be true .... I'm still terrified! Give me an example of a dentist who handles patient fear well.

Always found it best if they explain exactly what it is they're about to do so no surprises !!

As for recommendations in HH, I think there's been a few mentioned on this and earlier threads.

Certainly no recommendations in this thread so far. Does anyone actually recommend a good dentist for a terrified patient?

There's a thread somewhere dedicated to recommendations for dentists. I'm not particularly phased by dentists, but I imagine mine must be quite reassuring to someone who is. Hua Hin Dental Clinic, Petchkasem near Sports Village - very pleasant mature lady who speaks good English and knows her way round a tooth!

I'm still terrified also and really don't want to go back there. The pain has finally subsided but the right side of my face has swollen up and I still can only eat liquids.

I guess the god of dental karma was just out to get me for leaving it too long.

For those in HH, the dentist recommendation topics are here:

I had real rough removals of my wisdom teeth too, they were going to cut into my jaw but managed at the last couple attempts to get it out.

Now my dentist is a friend and client so he makes sure I don't feel a thing :rasta:

Migrant, isn't that great? My last U.S. dentist in Florida was also a friend and when I would come in for a cleaning he automatically set the nitrous on high and the music system to rock and roll without even asking me. I started actually looking forward to dental visits... my teeth were never cleaner! Too bad they don't use that stuff here but I think it's on the illegal substance list as I read a news article recently about someone getting arrested for having been caught with a small tank of it.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
