Pharvey..........A lifelong friend of mine works in China as well and he has also joked about the fact that there's no such thing as privacy when you go to a doctor/hospital there. Apparently most procedures draw a large crowd.
I've actually had the camera down my throat before but that was to check my stomach when I was trying to bullshit my way into getting a few days holiday while in the army. Apparently I did have an ulcer, or so the camera told them. 30 years later I'm still waiting for it to produce symptoms.
As for the colonoscope.......I have heard they sedate you for the procedure? I'm actually quite curious given that I've lived on an 80% meat diet all my life, and apparently that puts me at risk of getting colon cancer. I just don't fancy the idea of being probed.

Generally for procedures like colonoscopy a technique called 'Conscious Sedation" is used. An intravenous medication is given which makes you very sleepy and unaware what is happening without the need for rhe breathing apparatus in a full anesthetic.
I had a hip replacement and a hernia Operation and had an epidural block and CS and it was just fine.
I had to have a colonoscopy in Pakistan in 1987. After getting me to remove my kacks the doctor, who I swear was rubbing his hands gleefully, said (and I quote exactly): "Ah, Mr Underwood, please assume a position as if you were praying to Allah..."
At least he wasn't carrying a white Persian cat.
No anaesthetic of any kind. When I went to see a specialist back in the UK, he winced on my behalf.
(For some unaccountable reason, I don't get many opportunities to tell that story... )
Well, thanks for all the comments. Not much about the procedure itself - but nice to see so many people interested..!! I remember having one back in the UK a few years ago and the doctor performing it asked if I was OK. I replied that as long as I couldn't feel both his hands on my shoulders I was more than happy..!!!
The thing is Terry, you can't really blame the doctors for having an attitude. After all, they have to put up with a lot of crap and ongoing internal investigations.
