Re: Are the Russians coming to Hua Hin?

Post by bcrglobal »

I've got a lot of friends in the Russian travel business (Both here and in Moscow) and they all say that the "Quality" Russians are getting sick of the trash Russians in Pattaya and are looking at Hua Hin as a viable alternative.

Unfortunately the "Trash" will always follow the "Quality"--it's in their nature, they want to be mistaken for quality.

On the up-side Russians do tend to spend on the property market, and if they do come in en-mass then that should provide a MUCH needed shot in the arm to the property market around here. Also should provide for better eye-candy on the beaches.

You'll be able to tell though that the Ruskies are really around when they start selling decent vodka in bars, supermarkets start stocking a wide variety of Addidas sports tracksuits with hoods and the food section has fresh beetroot all the time.
Other things to watch for are black Hummer H2s and Mercs with blacked out windows and extra chrome, sudden increases in the number of gold finish dolphin taps and sink accessories sold at HomePro, bars suddenly swapping annoying euro hi beat music and rap for even more annoying balalaika spliced Russian hi beat and rap or endless loops of TaTu, and a sudden drastic increase in the number of heavily tatooed young males "falling off" balconies.

Dead young Ukranian girls in deckchairs on the beach discovered at sunup are an optional extra with your Patayya Hell regional development deal.

Thanks to ya detailed description Spitfire and Sandman what ta look for if them Russian onslaught had arrived @ our Trinity City Area of Thai Gulf coast Riviera of Cha Am, Hua Hin and Pranburi just yet.
Yet during my latest visit to town & beyond I can happily proclaim, "It's been contained....for now". No body knows what the future will bring but let's hope that our area remains relatively contained but as we know it's inevitable that russians will come to our area of splendid pasture. We just hafta make sure that we that the right crowd comes to Hua Hin & Beyond and male it uncomfy for the raunchy Patts Russians but more comfy for the Families. & Chill out russians! So I don't have sadly proclaim "Ohh my Buddha! There goes our lovely Hua Hin & Beyond area"

Yo Sandman,
Did ya know eversince GM (Government ehem... General Motors) discontinued the Hummer Brand prices of the H2 and H3 are shootin down hotter than a Firecracker. In Siam Oop's I mean LOS you can get a H3 for less than 2 Million Baht. (4.5 to 6 Million before) and an H2 you can get for less than 3 Million Baht. ( 6. To 8 Million Baht before.) There's a Major catch though only 3. Chevy Dealerships in Bangers are Doing maintnence in this Type of Vehicle. And If any car part which is Not in stock And Needs to be backordered ohh boy cost could really take off like Superman on Steroids.

Yes, but we're discussing the RUSSIANS in this thread, not the English.

Used to teach Russians to dive. Obstinate is the only character trait that springs to mind but that soon changes when you have them in deep water. Always found them very easy to deal with, similar to the Finnish and Israelis, you just have to keep it super simple and they always give a straight answer to a straight question. Must say I did not reckon the ones in Pattaya sporting more gold chains than Ratner and behaving like total WKers' There again I did not meet very many English people there that were my cup of tea other than at the bike show which was full of a very nice crowd.

I hope this is not perceived to be advertising,
We work with a Russian Sales Agent who is by all accounts a pleasure to work with. I previously had rarely come into contact with Russians and had heard the drums banging from Pattaya.

I must say the Russians I have had the pleasure to meet, work with and provide services for have been polite, well mannered, patient, affluent & generally easy to please and gracious, in addition they are of a younger demographic mid 20's to late 40's.

I really hope that more of them come as they IMO are a positive introduction to Hua Hin.

Have a snipe at the English as much as you like but from experience I can tell you that 99% will not give a Donald Duck unless it involves football or cricket etc.

Just to clarify--I'm a yank, but have lived more time in both (Greater) London and in Moscow than I have in the US. Almost all my close friends are British or Russian (Or in a few cases both) I've heard the terms used by Bozzman101 used to describe tourists from the US, UK Russia, Germany, the Netherlands, Iran, Saudi, France, Italy, Australia and quite a few other countries......

UK does contain more than English....

Richard - Us Scots like our Rhubarb crumble and custard, and sometime Rhubarb & Gooseberry pie and custard.

Now back to the topic at hand, as for Russians, working amongst them i have found most to be great to be around and most are well mannered, however they are not without their bad apples either as is the case with all countries. To generalise that they are all like a certain few in Pattaya is unfortunate. Pattaya has many nationalities and i've cringed a few times while being out when the young British Yobs start - i say British because i've seen English, Welsh, N.Irish and Scottish all act like complete A-H's.

I think Pattaya gets most of the lower end of the Russian market because they come on package holidays which fly into Utapao airport which is close to funtown.:)
If it involves spending more money to visit Hua Hin, you should only get the middle and upper end of the market, Mafia with money will probably go to Phuket anyway.

Arguably the Russians are better for the Thailand economy than customers from the Middle East and Sub-Continent.
