Yes, true. I shouldn't equate age with more electric usage. My experiences have all been with brand name. One in a Pattaya rental house where the pump was old and simply burned out. I forget what the owner replaced it with but my electric bill mysteriously decreased by several hundred baht monthly. Second was in our house here where the pool package came with "Espana" brand filter and pump. The pump sounded like a 747 on takeoff, and replaced under warranty twice with the same brand. Finally ripped it out and replaced with a Hayward Super Pump and again, the electric bill went down several hundred baht. PeteNereus wrote:Not sure what you mean by this , Pete? An electric motor is not like a car engine that will start to lose efficiency as it wears out, especially if not serviced properly......
Any impeller friction will draw more current at the motor.prcscct wrote:my electric bill mysteriously decreased by several hundred baht monthly.
Not sure what you mean by this? The total "head" that a pump has to push against consists of a lot more than any "friction" that may be caused by the impeller. Pump hydraulics are a science in themselves.MrPlum wrote:Any impeller friction will draw more current at the motor.prcscct wrote:my electric bill mysteriously decreased by several hundred baht monthly.
Unless pumps and electrics have changed in the last decade, anything that makes the motor work harder is going to draw more current. Worn bearings, distorted shaft, debris in the impeller housing, incorrectly sized piping, restricted water flow.Nereus wrote:Not sure what you mean by this?
None of which are "friction on the impeller".MrPlum wrote:Unless pumps and electrics have changed in the last decade, anything that makes the motor work harder is going to draw more current. I thought "friction on the impeller" was a good thing... that's why I've always hated condoms!None of which are "friction on the impeller".
Not sure why you've misquoted me. Debris in the impeller housing will cause friction and shaft distortion can cause impeller rubbing, as can an incorrectly fitted impeller. Google 'impeller friction' or have it your own way. I care not.Nereus wrote:None of which are "friction on the impeller".
It seems high? Sorry but bloody hell yes it seems astronomical to me. Ditch the pool for a while Siani. Ask the Agent to explain how he arrives at that figure. Check your meter reading regularly - and get someone you can trust to check out the cabling as well. You might just be feeding a local stall or neighbour with electricity.Siani wrote:Can anyone tell me (approx) how much their average monthly electric bill is please? Please can members answer who have a pool, no dishwasher, washing machine, and use gas for cooking. The agent has just told me that the months bill is 4000 baht which seems high. We only have aircon on low in one bedroom at night and use fans in the day when home. Thanks
And with what you save on your power bill, you can put towards buying chemicals to get your pool back to a usable condition after it turns green!leoedgar wrote:Hi there
i have small pool 6X4 m, washing machine and aircon running in the beedroom the hole night.
last months bill 3.850 with an average of 3.200 for the last 3 months. The pool pump was running 3 hours X2 pr. day, I have now ajustet it to 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the late afternoon, and will see what that will do to my bill wich I think is to high.
8000 - 9000bt per month ! 10 x 5 Pool,1 Air-con on during the night, washing machine on everyday, fan on in daytime.Siani wrote:Can anyone tell me (approx) how much their average monthly electric bill is please? I guess you didn't know about Google when you asked all the questions in this post?MrPlum wrote:Not sure why you've misquoted me.
