Nothing like that here Migrant. In fact, car insurances are only valid in Thailand, so not even in the neighbourcountries (or Mexico).

Its a real money spinner up north and you'll be hammered for about 400 baht if you can't produce one along with your current license and passport when/if stopped.
Sorry off topic but has anyone ever come across problems due to not having their passport in their car? I try to use my car as little as I can but when I do I refuse point blank to take my passport. Having once had my passport stolen and the indured the hassle that followed I would rather somebody nicked the car than my passport. During any police stops when asked for a passport I politely explain all this in Thai and never a problem. Actually you can get away with most minor offences or 'unoffences' if you start waffling on (politely!) in Thai.

As people tell you the insurance are very important, and for this compagny the insurance are exelent. I have a accident, they pay all, even a private hospital bill for my passager they pay.

That's a useful site Toy, they seem to have a few of the bigger companies on their search database, just quoted a 'Toyota Vios or similar', as 1,200 Baht/day, which isn't particularly cheap, but probably not expensive either if you walked in the door of a hire place 'downtown'.
And if their insurances are what they're cracked up to be, then good peace of mind. They do all manner of pick-up/drop-off services, and have a Thai company with 1,300 cars apparently!!

Mat wrote:If i had to rent a car, i would be curious about the insurance. A lot of car rental companies rent out cars with first class insurance, but have a look at the policy and most times you will see: "private use, not for hire/rent". As an insurance broker i know that this can bring serious problems. An insurance company will pay nothing if they find out that you had an accident with a car while renting it, if it says on the policy that it's not for hire/rent.
That's right anout the 'private insurance', what some of the smaller outfits do, is tell you to say you have borrowed the car from your Thai friend, the owner, who's number you have with you. These are as low as 15k/month for Vios size.

They have all the local insurance agents sewn up and never seems to be a problem for damage, never get charged, but not the best way to do things, but better than one without proper insurance who turns their back on you. Don't know what would happen with a serious accident though.

I have sat waiting for the OP to contact us for a quote.................? :?
We are a local independent farrang specialist car hire company that tries to offer a service at least equalling the big boys. We have only Toyota late model vehicles and all are covered by full accident and breakdown cover obtained from a local broker Mat at AA insurance in Hua Hin.http://www.aainsure.net/
We also offer free delivery and collection from local addresses. We ask only a 5000 Baht refundable deposit - This can be waived on payment of a damage waiver added to the hire charge.
Our monthly rentals for a Vios - 1 Month 21000 6 month 18000.
Why not support a small local company. Personal hassle free service is sometimes worth a little more.
And we are a sponsor of this website.

I have to say that I was super miffed as to why your name didn't come up. After only recently becoming a sponser of this website I woud of assumed more of an effort from the board to promote your services. I didn't bring your name up myself as I have never used your service, and also you are not paying me to promote your company. Bit of bad customer service on HHAD's part me thinks.
The title Cheapest place to rent a car?surely should be directing the board towards the guys that are paying you to promote their service. For more salt in the wound you even directed the OP towards your other car rental sponser while competely snuffing http://www.aainsure.net/.

As Dr Mike so graciously apologized to Homer for a slip in in a proffesional manner I believe HHAD should do the same for 'car hua hin'. Or is that losing face!

Sorry I may be mistaken. Are ...

http://www.aainsure.net/ and

http://www.huahinmedia.com/huahincarrental.php

...the same company? And is this 'carhuahin's' gig? I think I'm getting mixed up with the new sponser for insurance and the sponser for hiring cars.

Ignore the above post if so. Old age kicking in hard!

Yep. Just edited my post above. It was me getting the insurance place mixed up with the car place. I just remembered an 'AA' sponser being a car rental company.

Whoops.

Absolutely correct, many times cars are being rented out by the smaller outlets with only a private insurance. Works fine when you have small damage and you still remember you have to tell the "borrow from a friend" story. But what in case of a serious accident with a lot of damage and people injured? Will you still be "cool" enough to tell that story?

In the end the insurance company (and not a local agent) decides if they pay or not and no way an insurance company will pay big hospital and repair bills if they know the car was used for the wrong purpose.
Thailand is a very relaxed country, so beware not to become too relaxed also.
Would you rent a car in your home country without proper insurance only to save some small money? I would not because in the end it can cost a fortune.

If you put as much effort into opening your eyes when using the internet as you do whinging about everything and making false and unjustified comments towards our business and customer service you would notice the black car and prominent "hua hin car rental" link permanently fixed in the top right-hand corner of every single page on this forum directing readers to the aforementioned service.

As a past customer of Car Rental Hua Hin, I can only say that I was completely satisfied with the service.

And if you bothered to read posts on your own website in full rather than just picking something out you would see that I apologised for my blunder and was getting company names mixed up. Bit of a childish spat that one LEV

Next time I suggest you read things properly before commenting on them otherwise it's all a bit embarrasing for you.... "Hey Lev, didn't you notice the guy apologised that he got it wrong STRAIGHT after"

Whoops

We suggest that you keep your insults and moaning to yourself if you wish to continue using this website. There is a pattern to your posts and it is less than desirable, as has been noted by a number of members and moderators.
