I used to go to Dicks office for their quizz which was very good. Also another little bar up that road called the 'Omar bar'.
To be honest I frequented those bars because they were quite (not much good for the owners I know) but after a few years in Hua Hin soi binterfart gets a bit too much, and one seeks the solitude of a restful abode with which to cool ones trousers...

Sweetart,

I hate to pile on, but have to agree with the generally negative tone. I used to live in Soi 80 and went to Butterfly Rock on the nights when the Stone Head Band, now at El Murphy's, was playing. Five customers was a big crowd, and more than one night, I was the only customer. Around January 2008, the original owner replaced all staff and I thought the place might turn around, but it didn't.

Before buying anything in Soi 80 (or anywhere) spend a couple of weeks, at least, undercover. Just be a tourist and hit all the bars several times. Who's busy? Who's not? Why?

There has been a persistent rumour that eventually the Bintabaht/Selakam bars will close down and Soi 80 and Soi 88 will replace them, but take that with a HUGE grain of salt. I've heard it for a year and a half, but don't believe it. They're going to put in a Disneyland here, too...

All that said, I am willing to share my worthless opinions for free beer at any time. :D

PS - Is Victor the little Cockney guy?

HHADFan,you got Vic in 1.I find by charging him 5 bath more for a drink we can aviod him.
But about Butterfly rock it is a lovly bar we used to go for the sport.
For the last year or so they have been giving 2 beers 4, 1 daytime profit 5 bath, and a lot(not everyone)of the people have been the 7/11 brigade for cheap booze an pool.
I said last Sept. that things cannot get worse and I was wrong, its not much fun sitting in an empty bar waiting, but if you feel you can make a go of it and have the energy to do 16hr days and been abused sometimes go for ityou can have a good life here and the rains warm.

Yes, but you got the word 'guy' wrong, he's more of a *%$# :D

It's hard down that road now as at least 12 bars I can think of off top of my head, maybe a couple more and it's not a tourist route so you're relying on locals who often shift from place to place as their local.

Big problem too is the bars can't keep the better looking girls, they all leave to go BinterBaht so they can earn money.
Lovely fitted out bar, but are you prepared to go to Bangkok or Pattaya pay whatever it takes to get 6-8 quality ladies, then fund them for a few months until it gains a reputation and punters. Then you'd need to do it again periodically for rotation and to replace one's going off with boyfriends etc.
Sorry to drag it down to this level but that's a big reason many/most (not all) choose what bar to drink in. To me this is part of the bar probably the most important part, if the air-con or TV broke you wouldn't let it go without replacing it.
You'd want to fill the guest rooms somehow, (more costs for marketing) as you've got big overheads there and will need that extra income.

I'm trying to see the positives of making it work but I'm not even convincing myself.
High season is coming up, spend two weeks drinking around there and see what's what.

I met this Victor half pint chap before :thumb: , There were 2 french men in the same bar running down the Brits in a Jokey fashion. (didnt see their white flags though :P ) This was in a bar on the Sofitel road. Thai ladys hubby is a pilot i believe.

Thinking today, If no one took a chance on buying a bar, There wouldnt be anywhere to drink or have a nice friendly chat wiv the laydees.

MURF, agree it is a great bar, that's why I went there. Also, could not believe SHB was playing in a place where i was the only customer. They are a very professional band.

SJ is right about girls, too. The girls from Sept 2007 to Jan 2008 were boring, and when the new mamasan and girls came in, I wanted the place to succeeed. I rarely barfine a girl, but want to have fun with pretty, friendly girls. MURPH and SJ are owners, but I'm a customer, and I agree. As far as I know, MURPH's girls are just waitresses, but if you have bargirls, you will lose some. It's inevatible.

So, Sweetart, no one's trying to take the piss, but everyone's saying be careful. You're no threat to to MURPH or SJ, because they already have bars and Butterfly Rock is a known entity. my business is as far from bars as it ciould be. So if you're going to do this, go in with your eyes open.

Re Victor: Yeah, I thought so but couldn't remember his name.

He's certainly no threat to me I build houses lol.
Spend more time in bars than I do houses (moth) and know Butterfly Rock very well so was giving some impartial advice.

Is Vic still ere, since my staff started charging him once an extra 5 B on the chang he has dissappered.
Getting back to the issue, the vestal sweeties never stay long, the grass is always greener in soi sleze.
The rock of any bar(remember the old rock bar) is the old girls, they bring back and take care of the customers. Most of these girls were just looking for a nice farang to take care of them and the girl would take care of their family,I love them all.I pulled out of the ship/dubliner 1 1/2 years ago when the takings droped by 200%.This town changed maybe for the better,we have the highest ratio of 5 star hotels per k in Thailand.
People arrive like me and fall in love with this town,it's great-anything is possible if you work hard.
I'm lucky,I get to live here,I've a great wife and a beautiful son and every year or two my ex staff return from euroland with there T-lucks smiling.
Something new is needed for B/R(a part from the great sport)it is a good bar that needs a new maybe different lease of life and if it plays the rugby again I will support it.
