Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
^ If you put any faith in the below weather site, it appears you're in for a few days of showers...but not until the 1600-1800 hour period as appears to be happening now.

I was out in the car, but yes, when I got near home I had to drive up the river which professes to be my road.

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
Late yesterday afternoon, after the heavy rain, my wife was quite excited to see a double rainbow. She's xxxty (sorry, can't tell you that) years old and says she's never seen one before. She wondered what its significance could be. I just told her that it's twice as good as a single rainbow. Anyone know what Thais believe about double rainbows? According to wikipedia and other sites, rainbows are auspicious, but if you point at one you're risking your finger falling off. Maybe ponting at a double rainbow costs 2 fingers?

"Typhoon KALMAEGI"
No. 1 Time Issued : September 15, 2014
Typhoon Kalmaegi has moved past the Philippines to the upper South China Sea. At 10.00 a.m. on 15 September, the typhoon, centered 800 km off Hailan, or latitude 18.1 degree North, longitude 117.8 degree East, with sustained winds of 120 km/hr, is moving west with speed of 30 km/hr. It is forecast to head to Hainan, China and make landfall over upper Vietnam during 16-18 September. More rain is expected, as well as especially heavy to very heavy rain much of the North, the Northeast, the East and the South (west coast) of Thailand.
The rather strong southwest monsoon remains across the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand with scattered to fairly widespread rain. Especially, heavy to very heavy rain is likely in the East and the South (west coast). The wind and waves in the Andaman Sea are likely 2-3 meters high. All ships should proceed with caution, and small boats keep ashore during 15-18 September.
People in above areas should beware of the severe weather condition.

I'm sure it's nothing to do with this typhoon, but we've been having a couple of steady downpours this afternoon - for once the gods have listened to me, I cut the grass yesterday so prayed for rain

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
^ It could have a bit to do with it Dannie. If you look at the below, the thing is sucking in moisture from afar and right across our area via the counter clockwise rotation. Pete

As an FYI, the storm center passed 400 km (250 miles) southwest of Hong Kong but still shut the city down due the the power in the storm outer bands. Much of Issan, central, north and eastern Thailand will be within that radius once it gets here, and if it maintains the power.
"HONG KONG - Hong Kong was shuttered Tuesday as a powerful typhoon swept past the city, bringing strong winds and rain that caused flight disruptions and forced the closure of the stock market and container ports.
Typhoon Kalmaegi, packing gusts of 125 kilometres (77 miles) per hour, was centred 400 kilometres southwest of Hong Kong as it barrelled towards the northern tip of China’s Hainan island.
"Although the tropical cyclone is moving away from Hong Kong, gales are expected to persist for some time," the Hong Kong Observatory said on its website.
The Observatory hoisted the number-eight tropical cyclone warning on Monday evening and said it would remain in place until late morning Tuesday, triggering the closure of schools and businesses in the city.
At Hong Kong’s airport, over 500 flights were delayed while nearly 40 were cancelled, a government statement said.
It said that there were 44 reports of fallen trees and that some parts of the city were flooded, but there were no reports of landslides.
The Hong Kong stock exchange cancelled its morning trading session and said it would remain closed for the day if the number-eight warning -- the third in a five-tier warning system -- was still in force by noon."

Photo as if 0349 hours. Looks as if it's starting to break up now. I don't think any of it will get much further south than the Lop Buri - Korat line. Pete

Hua Hin has a nice big chunk of orange over it per the satellite this morning. Not part of the typhoon but moisture it's still pulling in from the southwest. You could get some decent rain this morning.
