In a bid to stimulate the tourism industry, the Committee of National Tourism Policy has approved the Hua Hin Recharge project under which residents and tourism workers will be given Covid-19 jabs.
On May 7, the committee approved a pilot plan to allow foreign tourists with a vaccine passport to enter Prachuap Khiri Khan, Bangkok, Phetchaburi and Buri Ram from October onwards.
Traisulee Traisoranakul, deputy government spokesperson, said the panel also agreed to have tourism personnel nationwide vaccinated in line with the government’s plan to reopen the country and gain confidence.
The plan will be proposed to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration within this month.
Under the Hua Hin Recharge project, she said the government will accelerate the procuring of 350,000 doses to vaccinate residents and tourism staff in the area next month.
“If the project goes as planned, at least 100,000 tourists should visit Hua Hin from October to December, generating revenue of over 1.2 billion baht, while some 100,000 will get their jobs back,” said Krod Rojanasatien, president of the Thai Spa Association.
Dr Suriya Kuharat from the Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Public Health Office said medical staff in the province will encourage people to receive their Covid-19 jab from June 7 onwards.
"The number of people registering for jabs is rising gradually,” he said.

So the people working in tourism will be fine, but the at least 100,000 tourists will be poisonous to the average man on the street - good plan

Isn't the "average man on the street" included in "Under the Hua Hin Recharge project, she said the government will accelerate the procuring of 350,000 doses to vaccinate residents and tourism staff in the area next month."?Big Boy wrote:So the people working in tourism will be fine, but the at least 100,000 tourists will be poisonous to the average man on the street - good plan

OK, I missed the residents bit
. Actually, I read the original story, not Pete's version, which a friend sent me, from the the Nation. That version started the same, but omitted the residents bit. I know I didn't simply miss it, because my friend was asking about residents also.
Having said that, yes the way this vaccine farce is being handled (weren't you talking about getting out of the country to get vaccinated a few days ago?), yes, I am very negative about the messages that are being put out at the moment?
There seems to be a black and a white version to every story at the moment. If you read the Hua Hin Today version, it says the opposite. Exactly the kind of thing the Gov't are doing a fine job of stopping, not.

If the govt. can speed up the acquisition of vaccines for the tourist industry and local residents, why can't they do the same for everyone else? So far, everything they are doing seems selective according to what they feel like doing at the moment.Big Boy wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 5:49 pm OK, I missed the residents bit. In fairness, I think they are desperate to re-generate the economy, which needs tourism. So they are being selective in where they start. About a month ago, Hua Hin was in nobody's plans.

If those who are thinking about coming to Hua Hin, as tourists, do some research, they'll find that there's nothing here to attract them. Unless nothing to do attracts tourists.
Will Bintabaht suddenly refurbish itself? Will Bluport spring back to life? Will the "downtown" area offer anything other than shuttered shop fronts?
What ever it was that attracted tourists before, no longer exists.
As a tourist, I wouldn't come here, would you? If yes, why?

Basically, I reckon this country is pretty much bankrupt.
There is no money for any kind of vaccinations.

If stats are to be believed Thailand's national debt is around 50% GDP compared with the UK at 85% and the US at almost 100%
On that basis, it appears better than others. Those figures are for 2020.

Household debts are closer to 90% so as always, the rich will be fine. Everyone else that had a business related to tourism will be fcuked.
