In practical terms what good would that do?

It would show the citizens, who are out of work, that the government is not living high on the hog while the citizens are struggling to pay their bills, as opposed to keep on taking a full paycheck while cutting back on the stimulus for unemployed citizens. No names mentioned, to protect the guilty.

50% for 8 months?

I read 20% for 6 months....

I've seen both figures. Either way, it's a good deed.

I'd posted this in covid (news)
It was actually reported as a 20% cut for 6 months. Not that it matters. It should be a lesson for the fat cats here which goes right to the top.

Or in the US, where congress voted themselves a raise tucked inside the stimulus bill.

I was an employer for most of my life. The lesson demonstrated here is one of leadership.
"Never ask your people/employees to do something that you wouldn't do yourself."
Sadly, it's not a lesson learned by many of our so called leaders!

And here we go....

"In India, politicians from the ruling Hindu nationalist BJP party have been touting cow urine as a cure for Covid-19.
“Cow urine parties” in India brought hundreds of people together to drink the liquid that some Hindus believe has medicinal properties. A BJP party worker in Kolkata, Narayan Chatterjee, was arrested for organising a cow urine consumption competition just as scientists were warning people to avoid large gatherings.

In Tanzania the president has promised that taking communion in church would “burn” the virus away. In Brazil a congressman claimed a day of fasting would halt its spread.

And the leader of the most powerful country in the world, Donald Trump, has been touting as a miracle cure an unproven anti-malarial drug that has contributed to at least one death.

There have also been dubious claims about technology. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced it had invented a device that can detect coronavirus at a distance of 100 metres, using a magnetic field and “bipolar virus”.

And in the UK, Eamonn Holmes, the presenter of ITV’s This Morning, said “many people are rightly concerned”, about conspiracy theories linking the roll-out of 5G mobile phone networks to coronavirus, while insisting he did not believe in the hoaxes himself."

Now we know where the Thai bomb detecting devices were sold on to.

Prayut: B5,000 to be paid for three months

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... ree-months

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has made an about-turn, saying the government will hand out the 5,000-baht aid for three months as planned earlier.

The premier apologised on Thursday for the “miscommunication” on the previous day. On Wednesday he said the government would have money for only a month’s worth of the handout, leading to an uproar among applicants.

On Thursday, he said the government would make sure the aid was paid for three months..... (Full story at link)

This could be a huge, huge mistake. Once they do it they can't undo it. It appears once again money talks louder than health concerns. :banghead:

https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/thai ... is-weekend

Thai-Malaysian border set to open this weekend

The Thai-Malaysian border is set to reopen this weekend to assist the struggling rubber trade, causing locals to express concern that a spike in new Covid 19 cases could result in Thailand because of the move. Security officials, however, are assuring the public that intensive screening measures are in place in anticipation of the re-opening.

Commander of the Fourth Army Region, Lt Gen Pornsak said all agencies in the southern border provinces and the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre have set up a task force to screen people entering into Thailand in preparation at the checkpoint. Officers anticipate around 800 people per day to cross the border and are ready to keep everyone safe under the “manageable levels”.

Speculation that up to 100,000 people could flood into Thailand at the border crossings, creating havoc at the checkpoint, has been dismissed by the SBPAC Secretary-General, who said “these are just rumours as the number of people who officially registered online to cross according to the embassy, are fewer than 8,000.”

Particularly worrying due to the daily infection rate in Malaysia running at 3 to 4 times that of Thailand.

Not specifically related to opening the border with Malaysia , but all governments face a huge dilemma trying to balance between the stimulation of the economy, against the threat of spreading the virus - it’s the well known phrase “dammed if they do, dammed if they don’t”

Of course, it isn't going to be easy, but opening a border where the numbers are 4x worse than your own seems a bit crazy.

If my memory serves me correctly, it was Malaysia who closed the border originally, so I guess the question remains, is it Thailand lifting the restriction?

But it’s going to be the same when they eventually open the airports and allow people from Europe or the USA (which have 20 times the number of Corona cases) - it’s all about the mitigation processes that are put in place and that’s where the problem might lie, not the actual change itself.

If you're referring to NZ,You'll have to take it up with the news services, such as Yahoo, who posted the article. If it's about the congressional raise, same answer. Thank you for checking. As to you calling me a liar, I doubt if you would do that if you used your real name and we met in public.
