A lot of "what' if and maybe", but an interesting read of you can wade through it and try to come to a conclusion.
World Cup 2022: What the stats tell us might happen in Qatar in November and December
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/63126367
.........2022 World Cup groups and world rankings (as at 30 October)
A - Netherlands (8), Senegal (18), Ecuador (44), Qatar (50)
B - England (5), USA (16), Wales (19), Iran (20)
C - Argentina (3), Mexico (13), Poland (26), Saudi Arabia (51)
D - France (4), Denmark (10), Tunisia (30), Australia (38)
E - Spain (7), Germany (11), Japan (24), Costa Rica (31)
F - Belgium (2), Croatia (12), Morocco (22), Canada (41)
G - Brazil (1), Switzerland (15), Serbia (21), Cameroon (43)
H - Portugal (9), Uruguay (14), South Korea (28), Ghana (61)............
.............Because of Fifa rules dictating the number of teams from each continent, there are teams not at the finals that rank higher than some that are.
The most obvious absentees this time are Italy - sixth in the world - but Colombia (17), Peru (23), Sweden (25), Ukraine (27), Chile (29) and Nigeria (32) would all have been involved if world rankings decided qualification irrespective of location.
While seven lower-ranked teams taking part this time might seem like a large proportion, it is actually the lowest number during the 32-team era. Some finals have had as many as 11 teams from outside the top 32...........

Hotels concerned over World Cup TV broadcast uncertainty
Hotel operators say they are worried by uncertainties over live broadcast of the upcoming World Cup in Thailand, even though most tourists have other priorities when choosing their holiday destination.
The National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission will on Wednesday announce whether it will support the 1.6-billion-baht broadcast rights, while negotiations over the price with Fifa are still underway.
Marisa Sukosol Nunbhakdi, president of the Thai Hotels Association (THA), said tourists expect to be able to watch the World Cup, and most of them think this is the default service they should have during their stays in hotels.
"As the tournament is a month-long event, if Thailand fails to secure the licence, a number of tourists won't be satisfied with the experience during their trip. We are now waiting for conclusion from the related authorities," she said.
Suksit Suvunditkul, president of the southern chapter of THA, said hotel guests have started to ask for clarity over the live broadcast of the event in Thailand.

Not yet, the junta is trying to worm out of paying for broadcast rights, and clearly, the billionaire CP boss isn't interested.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 12:39 pm Also, there’s still no update on whether it will be freely available in Thailand?

Our squad for the world cup. A few surprises. Dunno how Kalvin Phillips has made it having played something like 50 minutes of football this season.
I don't trust children. They're here to replace us.

Couldn't make this up ... Thailand asks Fifa for a discount.
Fifa asked to drop its price
The Sports Au-thority of Thailand (SAT) said it is trying to negotiate with Fifa to lower the price of the rights for Thailand to broadcast the 2022 World Cup matches live.
SAT governor Kongsak Yodmanee said on Thursday the price quoted in the last negotiation with Fifa was 1.6 billion baht, while only 600 million baht was approved by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) on Wednesday.
Subsequently, the SAT has been exploring ways to find additional funds to finance the purchase of the broadcasting rights, Mr Kongsak said.
"We last night contacted both Fifa and its agent and told them frankly that the NBTC had agreed to give us only this amount of money. So, we asked them to lower the price more," he said.
Mr Kongsak also said the SAT is in talks with potential private partners to jointly fund the purchase of the rights.

Funny how other Asean countries had no problems stumping up. Other priorities here it seems.

Is there PPV in Thailand? If there is, people who wanted to watch the games could pay the fee and watch.

Thailand to rethink ‘must have’ rule after World Cup broadcast chaos
The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) plans to review its “must have” rule after approving a budget of 600 million baht to purchase rights to broadcast the 2022 Fifa World Cup.
The “must have” rule, which dictates that World Cup matches must be broadcast for free across all platforms in Thailand, deterred private broadcasters from buying the rights.
With less than two weeks to go before the tournament kicks off on November 20, the NBTC finally stepped in on Wednesday to secure the broadcast rights with 600 million baht.
However, Fifa is demanding 1.6 billion baht for the broadcast rights, leaving the Sports Authority of Thailand scrambling to find the extra money before the opening match in eight days. Thai advertisers are also delaying their plans for the World Cup as they wait to see the outcome of negotiations for the rights.
Trairat Viriyasirikul, acting NBTC secretary-general, admitted on Friday that the “must have” rule will have to be revised as it is disrupting business operations.
He said it was not the NBTC’s duty to purchase World Cup rights every four years, adding that the problematic rule should be amended to reflect the proliferation of broadcast platforms in Thailand.

https://thethaiger.com/news/national/fi ... xgHxbAoIAMFIFA says no to Thailand’s TV World Cup discount request
Thailand’s embarrassing Dickensian-like cap-in-hand approach to getting the FIFA World Cup 2022 television broadcasting license at a discounted price was met with a resounding no from FIFA.
Three private companies stepped up to the plate to chip in another 400 million baht to add to the government’s 600 million baht subsidy to round up the pot to make 1 billion baht but it is still 600 million baht short of FIFA’s asking price. FIFA told Thailand there will be no discount or retail sales, adding that if they wanted a discount, they should have contacted FIFA two years ago.
At the beginning of this month, Justice Minister Somsak Thepsuthin insisted that the Thai government would have the World Cup broadcasting license in time adding that by stalling the process the license would be cheaper. It appears the Justice Minister thinks he’s at a night market bartering for a set of towels.
The 67 year old MP also insisted that the price would not be over one billion baht and no support from the private sector would be needed.

Govt offers World Cup loan
World Cup fans in Thailand are likely to miss out on being able to watch the first match on Sunday after the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) failed to agree on a price with football's international governing body (Fifa).
A source close to the cabinet meeting on Tuesday said Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon told those present there is a high chance that an agreement would not be concluded in time.
Fifa has set the TV broadcasting rights price tag for Thailand at 1.6 billion baht. He said the SAT has asked to lower it to 1.2 billion.
At present, the SAT has a pot of 600 million baht from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission's research and development fund along with 200 million baht from the SAT and a further 400 million baht pledged by private companies.
However, that still leaves a 400-million-baht shortfall, said the source.
Hosted by Qatar, the World Cup kicks off on Sunday with the final on Dec 18. The curtain raiser will be a game between the host country and Ecuador at 11pm.
Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said the SAT can borrow from the government if necessary but he opposed using the central budget to buy the broadcasting rights.
SAT governor Kongsak Yodmadee said on Monday the football governing body had agreed to lower the price slightly, adding the SAT needed to fulfil the promise that was made by Gen Prawit two weeks ago that all matches would be aired free and live on Thai TV.
But Gen Prawit on Tuesday appeared to backpedal on Tuesday. "I don't know," he told reporters at Government House, suggesting the SAT was the appropriate agency to ask for an answer to that question.

I'm starting to lose interest, and nobody loves a game of footie more than me. I might struggle with the England matches, but for me - any buffering whatsoever turns me off. With the exception of England, if they can't sort this mess, I'll just opt out.

The prick could sell a couple of his watches! I know its only football, but how long are the people going to take being fleeced and treated like scum by this shower of cnuts.
I'm going to have a fiddle about to see if I can get a Kodi build to work for it. I won't be doing the 2am games anyway so can settle for a download the next day.
SBS are showing it downunder, but you'll need the VPN: https://www.sbs.com.au/sport/fifa-world-cup-2022
