Re: Six Nations 2011

Before the previous round of games I was thinking that England would beat France, that Ireland would beat Scotland and that Wales would stuff Italy (which obviously never transpired but a win is a win). I had it in my mind then that England would slip up against either Scotland or Ireland and that Wales would beat a demoralised France before playing Ireland at home for the Championship. Unfortunately I got the Wales fixtures the wrong way round and realised we'd probably be going to Paris to play a bouyant French team who had just slaughtered Italy.

Then yesterday happened! Brilliant display by Italy who have opened the door for Wales again!

As for the Wales - Ireland game, I was doing an Arsene Wenger as I was in the stadium and didn't actually see the line out thing - it all happened so fast I missed it but I did see Mike Phillips racing in front of me to score so as a Wales fan I'll take it! We've been on the receiving end of those sort of decisions for years so it doesn't bother me.

Overall it seemed that Wales edged it in terms of territory and posession and basically beat Ireland at their own game - a very physical kick-fest, which surprised me. Both O'Gara and Sexton were poor in controlling the game. Ireland did seem to win the wrestling contests on the odd occasion that mauls developed but then failed to do anything with the turnover ball.

Wales have now tackled three sides in a row into submission. They are not particularly creative behind but it seems like they have set their stall out to 'win ugly.'

Although I thought he was at fault for the first try, Roberts' tackling was utterly destructive for the rest of the match, dropping both Donncha O'Callaghan (right in front of me) and then finally Cian Healy 5 metres in front of the Wales posts to dislodge the ball and end the game. That last tackle was a try and match saving tackle by a back on a forward who has become used to scoring plenty of tries from that position. When Roberts hits people they stay hit!

I have not been able to access Sportguru for 2 days now.

I recently moved to3BB and wonder whether it's a blocked site. Same for Piratebay

Well looks as though England played the tiddlywinks, whilst our boys gave you a good hammering. We played a brilliant game :D

Well played Ireland and well played England with such a young side winning the championship!

Ireland certainly taught the English how to play. It makes you wonder why they didn't turn up against the other nations. :?

England haven't won the championship yet - Wales could still steal it at the 11th hour.

Great game - superb 1st half by Ireland, well done to England for making a great game of it in the 2nd half. Thoroughly enjoyed the match - also huge congrats to BOD for taking the overall championship try scoring record!!

Bloody Welsh game has been delayed an hour as Sarkozy is apparently addressing the nation - surprised they are surrendering at this point though :duck:

Cymru Am Byth!! Come on Wales

yep, no excuses or complaints from me, well beaten :(
the experience, effort & the sheer quality of the irish was far superior

i think our younger players will certainly benefit from the tournament, especially winning the championship (wales are getting thumped in paris   )

though like caller, i also fear for the northern hemisphere teams in the world cup later this year :|

Well, it's 5:30am - Wales have been soundly beaten..... although when we actually started to play in the last 20 mins, it was a bit better.

Ultimately, France bullied Wales off the ball, very strong at the breakdown and always sharp in attack. Wales again, cr@p tactics.... I don't think they will change with the current coaching team, and that;s a very sad state of affairs considering the talent we do have (maybe not in depth).

Anyway, congrats to England on the title, congrats to Ireland for a superb all round display, well done Scotland and congrats to Les Bleus for a very convincing victory.

Wales..... PLEASE for the love of God change your bl**dy tactics!! :banghead: :banghead:

Right.... I'm off to bed!!

Congrats to Lindosfan who has taken 1st Place. I seem to remember Fanus23 being in 1st before the start of round 5, so good job in beating him at the wire. :thumb: Pete

Don't feel bad about IKTS, you have to be an evil wizard and priest of darkness to do well this year. Throw statistics and logical thought out the window! :cuss: Pete

And the scrum half! It was no coincidence that we started to get some decent quick ball in the second half when Peel came on. Phillips fits the style that Gatland wants Wales to play but not the style that Wales need to play.

Never mind, there's always next year and, of course, two warm up games against England before the world cup!
