While this has a distant concern for me, it is ongoing and has been for years and doubt if they will have a functional solution anytime soon. They will not do much in the housing industry. It cannot burden the load. so where while they get it from? I suspect car taxes and registration, fuel taxes,, sales tax etc. So you have to manage it well but its easy to do if you are cognizant about it.
My main concern about living in California now (lived there from birth until age 51) is not taxes. It's the reduction in services and it's impact on safety and quality of life. And what happens after the state defaults on it's debt?

The Sterling / Euro exchange rate hasn't helped either.
Well the good news is Sterling against the Baht has improved today! Better than its been for a long time almost 50 :)
So.....maybe we can all survive on 900 baht instead of a 1000!

I think the US has big problems with their property market...its worldwide too...Spain, UK..US...and Thailand. I think that property has dropped in Thailand slightly from last year....whoops  Off topic!

...Supposing you were a single male....with only an occasional girlfriend and not a punter lifestyle.... and after Rent, hydro, internet and tier 2 health insurance was paid, no car but a mountain bike.... could an expat in HH live on 1000 bhat per day...?....and if he could...would it be a meager existence... ?

Well.... until I was banned from this board...(for trivial reasons... :banghead:) .... I did read the responses.... It was established back in March that MOST.... people with discipline could live on 1000 bhat a day... Somehow the almighty UK got dragged into the equation... and now California no less.... It was about Thailand all the time though... no shit...

Not me, I'm usually well under way two hours before that! I only drink with meals and I only eat one meal a day... it usually starts around noon and stops around 6 p.m. :D

Most Thai's live on 200 baht a day, which means they consume over 5 times LESS energy than most of you do if you really think about it..

A foolish man told me once he was wise and I laughed with compassion for his lack o knowledge and just told him to go check the daily salary at most places of work, sometimes in the rural areas the salary is only 150 baht a day. In Burma its less than a 100 baht for manual laborers. Instead of one line comebacks, actually provide some concrete evidence to prevent your self from being seen as a fool my friend..

When you stop with the insults and abusive PMs and can conduct yourself with a modicum of decorum. We still have no idea as to what spurned your last outburst of hatred towards forum owners and staff - if you have a problem with us please contact us via the correct channels.

You are also on a public warning now since you have ignored the private one and continue to post antagonistic comments intended to disrupt topics and annoy the community - typically this behaviour is called trolling and will not be tolerated here. Flagging other peoples responses to you when you have instigated them will also not work, you have some valid points so please be constructive with them instead of insulting others - you will not get another chance here.

I agree with BaaBaa. I don't think most live on 200 per day, in fact I am very familiar with about 150 families in my wife's Issan village as I hear about them nearly daily and am now beginning to get visits from many of them because they are pretty affluent at the moment. Most of them are fixing up or building new homes, have recently bought trucks and are spending much more time traveling around the country. The teenage girls are getting braces and their noses done, etc., and this is in a village so remote in Issan that they do not even have cellular service and they have only received running water and electricity in their homes since I married my wife. They can't possibly be living on 200 baht per day.
