Hmmmm

read today that the head of the army last night told SadSak to sod off when he mooted using the emergency law to bring the army out. Seems the good General suggested SadSak used the police, the also said he should consider standing down or dissolving parliament.....

....looks like SadSak cant count on the army for support then. :thumb:

Guess he'll be moving in next door to his beloved Mr T sooner than he thought :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Nice to see PAD involving the young in the political process.
Let's kick this dodgy government out and put another dodgy one in.

I think the army is determined to stay out of this because of the problems that the last coup gave them.
To seize power takes a day, but then they are left with the thankless task of running the country for a year or so until a new government is found, a task that they have no desire or ability to perform.

Might well be true Mr Steve G, it's the devil or the deep blue sea on this one. Last time it turned out less than desired, not sure if they want an encore just yet.

I also have friends from Europe who now are re-considering their trips here this winter.
What I have heard - and this is only what I have heard - from some of the locals around, is that the 20.000p plus people in the seized government building have set up their own tv station, broadcasting from the gov build (as local tv shows nothing, or barely). I have confliciting messages about the rest.
The Pm was in HH earlier today, had been asked to present himself, and after visit left without comment.
Western press and news say the airports of YH, Phuket and Krabi have been closed down, that some trains and roads around BKK are being blocked.
Also heard as comments that yes, it has been crappy w this government , but the - or any - available alternative is not any better...
All seems fine in this area, no worries, but things are stirred.
For furhter info suggest reading local nwps.

Heres an image for you:

heres the caption:

Demonstrators outside the Metropolitan Police Bureau take cover from tear gas yesterday evening. Police denied firing the tear gas [My emphasis]

Oh so I suppose the magic tear gas fairy fired those rounds you spineless little swine?
!
At least back in the UK the police have some dignity. I will spit in the face of the highest so called police man in this country.... they have less "police" in them that the lowliest beat copper back home. Self serving cowards one and all. There....is that controversial enough for you?

In a county like this...where truth is the "undiscovered county"...does democracy actually mean anything at all?

No

Play with fire get your fingers burnt. 30 odd coups as a result of so called democracy....

maybe its time to go back to imposed rule?

Maybe its time to wise up.....democracy relies on education....and dirt farmers in Issan who sell votes for 100bht mean this happens when you try to impose "western democracy" too fast on an emerging SE Asian culture where being a face means more than the words that come out of it or the actions you do.....

Chaos A.D. Fun for me....not fun for the voters.

Actually........Sod em....they get what they deserve. what they were paid for ... hope that 100bht is paying off for you now dimwit! Welcome to democracy the hard way.....feel free to choke on it.

and on a personal note from Conky....directed at PAD:

You cant even do civil insurrection properly can you?

"Pack it up and go home.....this riot has been brought to you by the letters A for "Amateur League and F for F**cked In The Head". Timewasters.....dont occupy parliament....BURN IT DOWN!"

Rant concluded...... and breathe............

If they would only all sit down over a nice cup of tea and some cucumber sandwiches I'm sure everything would be fine .

People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD)

The truth,PAD is formed by a large number of educated and middle whom pay a majority amount of taxes and all revenues. We can't accept the extravagat goverment, they waste our national budget. Most of money has been spent on unnecessary projects and corruption. Some has been distributed to poor and uneducated people in rural area,a majority anount of thai population,to convince them for political election vote. That is the strategy that Thaksin & Samak (Thaksin's nominee) has been used to win the election and rule Thailad. Is this a ture democracy?

We gather together to protest corruption and save our country from being in bankruptcy. If you don't believe you can check Thaksin's financial status before and after his prime minister era. Samak and his political party is Thaksin's nominee and try to change our latest consituation to save Thaksin and his colleagues, despite one of his member has been judged on cheating in the latest election, and may lead to dissolve his political party.

Please understand us. Thank you

BANGKOK: -- Supporters of People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) enclosed the National Broadcasting Service of Thailand (NBT), a government-run television station, on Tuesday morning, forcing it off the air to demand that Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej and his cabinet be removed.

They reportedly entered the back entrance of the station and forced all the employees out of the venue.

The station briefly showed pictures of protesters breaking down the station before blacking out.

Police later arrested a group of 80 protesters, who were reportedly armed with two pistols, knives, and golf clubs.

But PAD core leader Sondhi Limthongkul denied that the men were carrying weapons, saying that it was the protest was done peacefully.

Other groups of protesters, meanwhile, invaded into the compound of the Transport Ministry and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. They, however, did not enter the government buildings.

Another group of PAD supporters also blocked roads around the Government House, forcing the government to cancel the weekly meeting at the site Tuesday.

Local media reported that Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej called an urgent meeting with Supreme Commander Boonsang Niampradit and chiefs of armed forces at the army headquarters after the weekly cabinet meeting was called off.

Anti-gov't protesters storm NBT television station, halt broadcast

BANGKOK: -- Hundreds of People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) demonstrators broke through the closed gates of the state-run NBT television station and stormed into the premises, halting all programs, as other groups of the PAD rallies at Government House and the Ministry of Finance to press the government to resign.

After breaking through the NBT gates, the protesters poured into the premises and seized the station. The government-sponsored channel was airing its morning news programme showing the moment the protesters stormed into the the station, for a moment only, as the station went off the air.

Earlier in the day, before dawn at about 5 am, a group of people raided in to the station to try to gain control of the facility. Police eventually regained control of the building and arrested 80 of the raiders.

Police also seized guns, knives, golf clubs and mild drugs from the trespassing protesters.

Meanwhile, Sondhi Limthongkul a core leader of PAD announced at the so-called democracy movements main protest venue at Makkawan Bridge on Ratchadamneon Nok Road that the anti-government protesters had already taken control of the NBT television broadcast facility and that more PAD supporters were heading to join the group at the government television station's compound.

Hundreds of anti-government protestors also rallied at Government House and blocked all gates to its premises in an attempt to bar the Samak government's ministers from attending the weekly Cabinet meeting.

The protestors also staged a demonstration at the Ministry of Finance and the Agriculture and Co-operatives Ministry, where the PAD has reportedly taken over the premises and asked the civil servants and senior officials to stop working.

Footage on NBT shows protesting breaking windows

A footage on NBT's special mobile unit showed protesters storming in NBT station and braking through doors while police watched helplessly.

Egnator 76,

What I understand is that you were beaten at your own game, so another group of corrupt and greedy politicians got in and their allegiance, in gestures at least, was not to the usual elite.

Maybe if when in power someone had actually done something for the common good instead of lining thier own pockets, the whole sorry state of Thai politics and corruption wouldn't currently be being exposed to the whole world as the sham it is and always has been.

Enough Isaan protestors against corruption have over the years been killed or otherwise disposed of, whether they be teachers, headmen or just against the latest corrupt scheme to make the rich richer and taking the land from the locals with little or no compensation - is that the status quo you have supported? Is that something to be proud of? Why blame them if they bite back and if that takes inducements - what's new? And they're still being screwed.

I wonder how the rest of the world will react if the openly undemocratic PAD see the overthrow of this elected Govt, for all its faults?
