Google earth gets to street level

Post by buksida »

Now GE is pretty cool bringing satellite imagery to the average joe but they've gone one further now offering a "street view" system where you can "drive" along roads and take in real time imagery.

This would be grand if they could expand it beyond their current coverage in the US but can you imagine it in Hua Hin - carnage on camera doesn't even come close but it would be fun getting those images, especially down "soi hoi" after midnight!

Privacy and security? Who cares!?

so in 20 years all we would need is a 2 square meter apartment, be wearing a Virtual Reality Helmet and in it we see ourselves in "google real world" leaving our "real" 50 million Baht Villa in Hua Hin, to go downtown and play some pool with "real friends", or enjoy a nice day on the "real" beach, etc...

Reminds me of Lawnmower Man :D

Stupid question. Possibly the most stupidist ever.

How do you get a more recent map update, can you subscribe to it or just have to wait for GE to update ?
It's about a year old right now.

Go ahead, start laughing ......

Hi there Super Joe

Ahem when you open GE then go to the "Tools" section of the task Bar then select "Update" in the "Tools" Menu. Then GE will go to the Internet and look @ its server for Updates. There it will find probably the all new 4.3 beta version which has some cool new features.

PS: In Google Earth Version 4.3 beta you have now a clear View of Cha Am and Petchburi as well. Plz check it out everyone na krab.

I think SJ is referring to the actual map images and not the software. The tiles used on Google maps are updated from the satellite imagery on what it determines as priority from requests so I would imagine hua hin is pretty low on their lists.

Google maps for web developers (using AJAX) and Google Earth the program are two different things as far as I'm aware.

Yeah sorry I wasn't clear enough, it is the actual map images.
Thanks for help.

I just downloaded Google Earth 4.3.7204 and you can zoom in far closer than you can on Google Map.

It would take me forever with the state of the traffic in town at the moment, the only 'view' you'd get is of the car in front!
