Buying a SUIT

Post by paddycp »

Alright peeps

Will be making a visit to Hua Hin this April and was hoping to buy a new suit or two. Can any of you recommend anywhere to get one? Best price and quality?

Cheers

paddy,

They're all much the same - they all use the same backstreet sweatshops to get the work done. Just make sure that you specify exactly what you want, know what you want to pay (just walk on if they won't negotiate) and make sure that you're happy with the results (put a bit of pressure on the seams to make sure they don't come apart, give the belt loops a tug etc).

Basically if you get something that does not meet your requirement, it'll be your fault - you will either have given them the wrong specification, or you won't have checked the finished goods thoroughly.

I have never been disappointed, and I've had many work suits, trousers, shirts and an overcoat made. Regardless of shop, the quality has remained the same.

Start watching Thai businessmen. When you see one with an especially nice looking/fitting safari suit, or business suit, ask him if it's tailor made and where he bought it.

The Thais know which shops have real material and which do good work.

klikster,

A valid point, but I doubt whether the Thai Businessman uses a shop at all. On several occassions I have asked Thai relatives a similar question to the OP. They have simply cut out the middleman, and have taken me straight to the sweatshop. Price has been better, but difference in quality is questionable.

Never let them deliver the suit on the day you are leaving.

Try (very hard) to get it a few days before leaving town and ahve a very good look at it.

Buying A Suit

Post by Robee »

Paddy

In response to your query 'where to purchase a suit' both my Wife and I have used the same Tailor for the past nine years, his name is MR CHAI and is located directly opposite the Pier Restaurants in Hau Hin. He is truly excellent guy, will insist on four fittings before your suit is made and will also include an inside pocket for your mobile phone.

His price for a suit, if you want it in Thai Silk is around £100 and that comes with two shirts and ties thrown in with the price. I have had a huge selection of suits made with him now over the years and he is the only Tailor in Hau Hin that I highly recommend.

Give him a try and I am sure you will not be disappointed.
