Taxis to BKK airport

Can anyone who's made the journey recently give me an idea of the time needed from HH to make a 16.05 flight on a Sunday?

Just to be safe allow 3 1/2 hours because of traffic ib Bangkok. Plus time for check in etc

Sundays are pretty busy as everyone in returning home from the weekend. I've been stuck in traffic for over an hour on the HH side of the bridge going into BKK. I'd try and be safer than 3 and a half hours. If there's an accident you could be there for some time.

I havn't ever been to the new airport to catch a flight and a friend who's here for a couple of days was hoping to leave HH around 11.30am!!!
We'll have a word with some taxi drivers as well, but I reckon a departure time of 10am latest from here would be advisable.

I'm told the rule of thumb is to allow 7 hours for an international. It sounds excessive but it means that you will catch the flight. Working backwards, 4pm flight so 2 hours before to check in plus allow an hour for queueing, makes 1 pm. Leaving at 10 therefore gives you 3 hours to get to the airport - fine so long as nothing goes wrong on the road!!!!!!

There are also more bars/cafes to hang round in at Savarnabhumi than there were at Don Muang. I'd rather have a meal and beer for an hour than spend it waiting to cross the bridge.

Lomu would your friend consider flying up on SGA.

The price for a 1 way ticket had been reduced last month to B2950 - only B500 more than a taxi including a tip.

I flew out of Suvarnabhumi at 16:10, a couple of weeks ago, and flew up from Hua Hin on the 12:30 pm flight, arriving in Bangkok at 1:15 pm.
From leaving my house at 11:50 am, I was checked in and inside the departure lounge at Suvarnabhumi 2 hours later. I have taken this flight 4 times and its always the same approximately 2 hours from home to the departure lounge.

It is only really worthwhile though if you are travelling alone.

That wouldn't be a bad idea except he's arriving in HH from Singapore around 2am on Friday morning and leaving for the UK on a 16.00 plane on Sunday afternoon.
It's literally a flying visit on his way home.

What bridge is everyone from HH using now to get to S'Boom? The "old" bridge as I call it that connects with Rama 9 and the expressway, or the new bridge further south that connects with the outer ring road?

I've never thought about it and don't know which one would be faster for you folks to the airport. Staying off the expressway though is probably the answer. The outer ring road always seem to have no congestion. Pete

Pete, we’re still having to use the Rama IX bridge; the last bridge that would get you on the ring road still wasn’t open two weeks ago, although it looks complete so maybe it will be soon. I hope so because I think that will improve things a bit, and for the drive I do up to Issan as well.

I think we may be talking about two different bridges? The first one you get to from HH you have to exit the highway south of BKK, go east a bit through that town/area across the river from Samut Prakan, then up and over and onto the outer ring road south of Bang Na. I think this one has been open for about a year?

Then there is the Rama 9 bridge as the next alternative that spits you onto the expressway system.

Maybe there is another one Steve as you mention "the last bridge" further up north that connects with the outer ring road north of Bangkok and then also loops around to the airport? I'm not sure, just guessing. Pete

Pete, the bridge I mean is the third one of the three new ones that have been built, that crosses the river from the end of the southern bit of the 9 expressway which is supposed to eventually join up to the Eastern ring road. I haven’t tried the bridge that you are referring to as I wasn’t sure of the route. I’ve been trying to find a map to link to, but have failed so far.
