I remember a few years ago having drinks after teaching at the Uni in Petchaburi. Drank far too much and realised quite quickly that I wasn't fit to drive so went to sleep it off on the back seat.
The next thing I know was a bunch of police banging on the car.
"What you do?"
"I'm very 'mao' so can't drive"
"You can't stay here. You have to go"
"But I'm very drunk!"
"So drive slowly!"
Things are very different here. Much easier to give the cop a 'tip' than finish up in court.

Santa feels the heat as Lapland buckles in Finland's record-breaking heatwave
"Make sure the reindeer have plenty of water - and don't forget to drink a glass every hour too," Santa reminds a team of elves as Lapland swelters in a record heatwave.
It's not every day that Father Christmas finds himself briefing about the hazards of sunstroke at the Santa Claus village inside the Arctic Circle, but this summer northern Finland has seen temperatures hover around 30C for days on end.
The Finnish Meteorological Institute said on Friday that for the 14th day in a row a temperature of 30C was measured somewhere in Finland - the first time since records began in 1961.
As for Santa, he will be staying indoors at the tourist destination in the city of Rovaniemi - his bright red costume trimmed with fur is very warm.
