You lads would beat a dead horse dead. Not to mention you think everything involves around England.
Cheers! for those that don't want to be miserable.
Why Do Expats Remain - Why Do They Come Back?
Re: Why Do Expats Remain - Why Do They Come Back?
Saw this on FB. More near the truth than a funny joke.
Sort of relevant in why Brits choose to remain here:
"A starving asylum seeker is greeted at Dover by a good genie who grants him 3 wishes.
The asylum seeker says i'm hungry. (POW) A huge banquet appears!
He then says, "Now I want a nice house." (POW) A big mansion with a swimming pool appears.
He then says I want to be British. (POW) Everything vanishes!
He asks, "Where has everything gone? the genie says you're British now mate you're entitled to f**k all."

And the problem is its still beyond the price most locals can afford. So properties are up for sale, the number of visitors drop and the local economy suffers. Seems it's happening all over, and many locals are unhappy as those 2nd homers would use local workmen, restaurants etc.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 02, 2025 6:44 pm Although It doesn’t make any difference to the cost, I believe that the doubling up of the council tax is due to it being a second home rather than being non-resident - people living in the UK with a second home are charged double and it’s having a huge impact on house values - I read yesterday that someone living in Cornwall has had to reduce the price of their property by £100k, almost entirely because the holiday home market has collapsed and people are not buying.
One day, a big monty python hammer from the sky will descend on UK politicians of all hues, and tap their respective heads in rhythm, as they are forced to repeat thhe mantra, 'raising taxes isn't the answer'!

The answer, of course, is to cut public spending.caller wrote: ↑Thu Jul 03, 2025 12:42 pmAnd the problem is its still beyond the price most locals can afford. I whole heartedly agree with you about cutting public spending. Lets see how Reform get on where they are in charge.

^At least we've had plenty of reasons not to live in the UK!

Interesting to see that the vast majority of people commenting here seem to be from the UK

Many Forum Members are from the UK and many if not all all of which have experience of Thailand and HH through visiting, working or living there. Several have had to return to the UK, some UK members live and work overseas but have "lives" in HH, some others purely travel. As such, we're obviously going to get a great deal of comments and opinions based on that - despite the fact that the Forum also wants and needs comments/information with regards to HH and Thailand.
Yep, we have strayed off topic somewhat here, but why not put it back on track and share your opinion Siam - where are you based etc.
