Usurers. In other words, given us your money free for an extra month - unless the Imm rules have changed?

Wasn't BKK Bank also the one which caused a stir fairly recently regarding closing accounts? I can't be sure that was exactly it but they certainly caused some consternation amongst the expat population.

I'm pretty certain that when the whole tax thing based on remittances into the country was mooted, the banks suffered severely. Not so much from us expats but especially from wealthy Thais.

I made it through to just under 5 minutes of complete waffle, without him actually saying anything, apart from 'big bank.' If that was meant to be a bit of self promotion, he failed. He's barely literate, for gawds sake.

He most likely uses "big bank" to avoid defamation, however it absolutely can affect many of us and if rest of the banks follow well then ...control from arrival to departure, no thanks.

Pretty sure Bangkok Bank is the dodgy one all the agents use for the fake statements for the "visa with no money" option ... they've all got their snouts in the same trough.

That and I think the 'call center scams operating in Myanmar and Cambodia, and other scams, which were setting up Thai bank accounts using fake ID`s, in order to launder money. This place`s was operated by foreigners, and we have the issue with "mule accounts"
Unfortunately, generalization always hit hardest to they who have no intention and interest of braking either Thai law or bank laws. :(

Dodge is 800k in /out. Any I was same as you only getting a few hundred baht interest . But as of this Friday I opened a fixed rate savings account

Put 800k in , opted for the two year deal. It pays 1.55 %. Not the greatest but better than the 0.25 % I was getting

Over the 2 years will get 12400 baht interest. Also it’s fine for your visa application. Lot easier not lots of print outs of your bank statements

Just one page

Thanks

1.6 % gross less 15% tax so 1.36% nett. As the amount is fixed, I get 10,880 baht net of tax every 2nd June.

Not great compared to other savings offers but better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick!
