Just bought a couple of 'regular' sausage rolls for my lunch - now 120฿.

So in the country where inflation is currently negative, a 20% rise.

Exactly. I'm not sure who their regular customers are now. Not me that's for sure, 8-9 years' regular custom now closed. Big Boy for one seems happy so they still have some supporters.

And Heinz soups which were 100 Baht a year or so ago 140. But that one's not just Nany.

No, not at all happy at a 20% rise, and will not buy again.

What are the alternatives now that AP has gone? If Nany's is the only real import/farang food outlet in town, its probably why they're hiking prices by double digits - they have no competition. Either that or the govt has increased its import tariffs again.

I don't eat sausage rolls that often, and we rarely buy imported foods because I can't justify paying 3-4x what they'd cost back home. Cheese is probably my only weakness!

Yes, if made in-house, the price hikes seem to be profiteering more than necessity.

Inflation figures here are bullshit and to be ignored (as are tourist figures). They don't include consumer essentials such as food and energy - real inflation in Thailand is probably closer to 15% (which is still less than how much some items are increasing).

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I agree with Buksi, inflation is much higher than the official figures. Especially with western foods.Nanys own prices have reflected that in many areas, if they have to pay more to provide gooods such as tea bags, soup etc, then it follows that they have to pass that on.

As for their sausage rolls, it's a treat, just like everything else I buy in Nany's, with the exception of tea bags, obviously . I will still treat myself on my occassional visits! And I agree about the Cumberland being the nicer of those available.

I have no problem with items sourced from overseas. There are too many outside influences to even judge a fair price. You either accept it or go without.

My gripe is something made from local ingredients, manufactured in the shop - how do they justify an 81% price hike in such a short time (20% for me, because I'm fairly new to their sausage rolls)? It does sound excessive.
