There were two such fires in Cha Am this week. One, across from the ugly recycling shop lasted two days. The other, not far and in a field being cleared, was still going as we left this morning.

Its amazing only people not in authority can see that. 9 times out of 10 there will also be a lot of workers in the field ensuring the burning stays under control.

Thailand Air Quality and Pollution Alerts

Post by fft100 »

Looks like the big HH rubbish dump just off soi 102 is on fire. Loads of grey smoke all the way past immigration. Just driven past and fire as well as black smoke visible. Could be some interesting chemicals in the smoke ! And wont be good for the air quality index !

Bangkok is back on the Top 10 global ranking for PM2.5 microdust particles at Number 6, shortly before 9am Friday, according to IQAir app. New Delhi has the world's worst air quality for a major city, followed by Lahore, and Beijing. Hanoi is at Number 4.

I went to Nongbua yesterday, and the hills en-route were typically misty as they always are during the pollution periods.

I've just run a real time check, and we're 4th worst in Thailand, ahead of Bangkok and Chiang Mai

Driving home from the footie last night, the air was thick with smoke from Ratchaburi to Hua Hin. I see Hua Hin has been featuring in the top 10 affected Thai towns/cities again today.

Daily news articles indicate that more and more central Gov staff are being told to work from home. Some Bangkok schools have shut as well and have gone on-line. I would think these steps will continue for the next few months until some rain arrives.

This is becoming another annual bad news event like the Songkran road carnage or flooding.

Was up Hin Lek Fai for my run yesterday ... you couldn't see as far as Khao Takiap and could smell the smoke in the air ... maybe time to move back down south!

I'm off to Bkk tomorrow, hopefully, I can find my way around!!

Only for one night though, then off to Khon Kaen, I'm told that is just as bad.

I am actually taking some korean masks I have, designed for yellow dust in Korea. So hopefully PM2.5 will be a breeze for them.

BREAKING: The Office of the Basic Education Commision on Thursday orders all schools nationwide that are severely affected by PM2.5 microdust particles (red code) to be able to decide whether to close the school for up to 7 day, starting today, January 23, or until the situation improves, said the commission secretary general Thanu Wongchinda. The move came as many provinces are now designated as unhealthy due to PM2.5 microdust.

Online classes will be held instead. On Thursday, 57 of its schools in Bangkok have told students not to come to school.
