Re: Dubai airport (DXB) flooded

Not in any way trying to justify their inaction, but this was a once in a lifetime event that obviously caught them completely unprepared. I guess they’re acting a bit like they often do in Thailand and don’t want to admit to their deficiencies - whereas all you and people similarly affected are looking for is a bit of truth!!

Dannie Boy……everybody I met during my extended stay at the airport understood that this was effectively the storm of the century and there would probably be delays or problems in the aftermath. I am a frequent flyer but have no experience of claiming for delays etc. At the beginning of the delays all of my fellow passengers were in the same boat and not one mentioned a compen claim due to delays as they understood the situation. As I mentioned, the delay notifications came regularly and extended the delays about 15 mins before the last delay was due to run out. It was all scheduled to extend automatically. At one point I counted the flight delays on the departure board and there were 42 out of about 50 flights. After many many hours it became a joke but that kept us on our toes and confined us to gate seating areas. Sometimes, probably just for a laugh, they would announce a further 2 hour delay but also tell us to move from Terminal A gate 12 to Terminal C gate 24. This generated a lot of excitement and it was fun as every other customer on delayed flights was told to move as well. A bit like pass the parcel for adults although we all had hand luggage instead of a gaily painted paper box. After the current 2 hour delay had passed we realised we were playing the same old game. It might take an expert on aviation law to unpack this but in my opinion the continued delays were a legal manoeuvre to avoid cancelling flights. If the flights had been cancelled then Emirates might have been liable for hotel rooms etc. In my mind I wont receive any compen and truth be told Im not that bothered about it. But Dannie Boy is correct in saying….just tell us the truth. We’re big boys and can handle it. Ps. Where’s my luggage?

Post by PeteC »

HANOI: Vietnam's civil aviation authority (CAAV) said Hanoi international airport and three others in the north will be shut on Saturday due to the potential impact of Typhoon Yagi, which is expected to make landfall in Vietnam late on Friday.

Hanoi's Noi Bai airport will be closed from 10am to 7pm, CAAV said in a statement issued late on Thursday.

Airports in the coastal cities of Quang Ninh and Haiphong will be shut from early Saturday until 4pm the same day, and the airport in Thanh Hoa will suspend services from midday until late Saturday, CAAV said.

Yagi has just been moving past Macau, about 300 km south and typhoon signal 8 was issued last night at 22.00 and will be valid until 14.00 this afternoon. Yesterday it was signal 3, which meant that our students didn't need to come to school, teachers were still required to do other work at school. Number 8 means that today we also don't need to go to school but are required to work at home.

There have been some heavy rains during the night and morning and some gusts of strong wind but nothing that I experienced a year ago. Many flights were also cancelled at the Hong Kong and Macau airports and perhaps they were also closed last night. I didn't follow that so closely as I was going nowhere.

Flights resume at Chiang Rai airport

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... ai-airport

Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai International Airport will operate four inbound and four outbound flights on Friday, but passengers are advised to allow up to five hours to reach the terminal due to severe flooding.

The airport announced that Thai Airways International, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air and Thai AirAsia will offer a combined total of four flights from Bangkok to the northern border province and four return flights.

Thai VietJet has not yet confirmed its operations for Friday.

Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight details.

All airlines cancelled flights to Chiang Rai on Thursday due to flooded roads, leaving passengers stranded at the airport despite its operational status.

The airport advises against using small vehicles to reach the terminal due to high water levels and has limited transport options available.
