Motorola cell phone cannot receive calls

Post by Don East Stand »

Hi :thumb:

Just wondering if anyone can help.

My wife's phone, a Motorola using Android (I think) can no longer receive calls. It can make calls, but when I try to call her number, it comes up as "busy"

I have made sure that there is credit on both our phones, I have checked to ensure that "Do Not Disturb" is off on her phone.

Call forwarding is NOT on.

Am I missing something fairly straightforward?

If I end up trying to do a "Factory reset" does she lose all her contacts, photos, etc?

Thanks in advance for any help

If it is like our AIS plans, having credit is not good enough. Top ups have expiry dates, and after that date you can't use it for calls. Check to see if the date has expired. If it has, it won't be long before the number is allocated to another user.

But the OP says it can make calls just not receive them, so credit shouldn’t be the issue?

You could exchange sims to narrow down the problem!

It's possible your proximity sensor has died. This is the one next to the front facing camera. What this does is sense the presence of an object close to the front of the phone, and turns off the screen during calls. I had to bin a perfectly good Sony phone because of this. Phone shops won't touch repairs of uncommon phones, of which Motorola is one.
Get someone to call the phone, then put your hand up to the screen. If it doesn't go off, your sensor is probably the culprit.
My two baht worth.

Should check call settings that incoming calls are not barred.

Also check with the SIM provider (ais, dtac, true) that calls to that number haven't been barred.

This troubleshooting link is from the Motorola UK website.

https://en-gb.support.motorola.com/app/ ... ifications

It gives you a couple of different simple checks to carry out

Was going to say the same thing. I've inadvertently blocked numbers that I've not intended to. Certain prefixes/area codes can also be blocked. With the amount of "Cold" or "SCAM" calls I receive these days, blocking numbers is a daily occurrence.

Hi :thumb:

Further to my original post I would like to thank you all for all your replies and suggestions, very much appreciated!

We have tried or checked almost everything that was mentioned, apart from one of the suggestions in the Motorla support i.e. trying "safe Mode" thanks 2dandan for the link, will try that at some point. Apologies to VincentD, unfortunately I couldn't quite understand what you were meaning,

My wife was in town yesterday and went to AIS to try and resolve the issue. They spent quite some time trying various things and were eventually able to make a call to my wife's phone!!! (They did say that if it happened again she might have to consider buying another phone :cuss: )

My wife had been back home for some time and I thought, I'll just try it .............. once again it came up as "busy" :banghead:

I'll need to get my head round it ..... every thing seems to work fine i.e. internet on the go, making calls etc... it's only receiving calls that are the problem. Having said that it can receive calls over wifi

Anyway, thanks again your help!!
