5 senior Police officers from Hua Hin transferred

Post by 2dandan »

In furtherance of the clampdown of bar opening hours and the murder of a soldier in a Soi 80 bar by a Police advisor.

Five senior officers at Hua Hin Police Station have been reassigned following the fatal shooting of a soldier in an unlicensed bar in Soi 80.
The incident, which occurred last month, involved a former advisor to the Hua Hin Police Station’s advisory board.
The victim, identified as Sergeant Major Rojanapol Rojanapanich, 31, from Thanarat Army Camp, was shot dead in the early hours of 18 August at Tiny Bar, an establishment operating illegally after hours. Three others were injured in the shooting. The suspect, a special advisor to the police, was arrested but has since been released on bail.
In response to the incident, the Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Police issued an order on 20 August, establishing a fact-finding committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The order, No. 294/2567, was issued under the authority of the National Police Act, B.E. 2565, and the National Police Office Regulations.

Many of the Forum members grew up in the UK where pubs closed at 11pm so as mentioned, you plan your social life accordingly.

Whilst I can understand the younger generation wanting a bit more flexibility, also as mentioned, these sought of reactions normally don’t last that long.

I agree 100% DB.

I'm away on a mini break myself right now. I've been out for a nice meal, a couple of beers, and I'm now back in my hotel room, and will most likely be asleep within 30 minutes.

I don't think because I'm on holiday that I need to stay out until 3 in the morning.

I remember in the UK when 24 hour opening came about (even I was young when that happened), neither I, nor any of my mates felt the urge to drink all night - we're human, and we need sleep.

I guess the guys who come to Thailand for 2 weeks holiday have a different outlook than those who live there permanently - they want to cram every activity possible in every 24 hours!!

And don't forget those who are nightcrawlers and sleep most of the day. I know several. I guess it could be considered as anything else, a choice. If the possibility is there at least it is available for those who would like a bit longer nights. I would not mind if regular bars at least could stay open until 02.

How many people on this thread or forum frequent the bars, or dare I say it nightclubs, in Hua Hin between midnight and 5am? Very very few, if any I suspect. BB’s family excepted.
I realize this forum is for old fogeys that don't go out. The police caused this problem, and the bars and tourists now have to suffer, but that's all ok and justifiable, I suppose.

Indeed, have a couple over at the moment and they're quite shocked by 'crackdown' Hua Hin... I did suggest going to Samui instead.

I will refrain from sharing any further nightlife news here for fear of upsetting the boomers and making them drop their digestives into their tea in shock at the premise that some people do occasionally stay out after midnight.

^The last time I was in England, I was asked to leave a pub at nine o'clock as they were closing due to the lack of customers.

It’s a national issue!!

Since 2000, a quarter of pubs in the UK have closed, totalling more than 13,000 locations. Four out of five people have seen a pub close down within five miles of their home. In 2023, more than 500 freehold pubs were sold, 34% of which will no longer operate as pubs.

However in general, most pub opening hours in England and Wales begin from around 11am and closing time is around 10pm – 11pm, while for bars and clubs these hours may extend to 2am – 5am. Although becoming increasingly rare, some on-licence premises still have 24-hour alcohol licences (GOV.UK).
I believe before around 2003 licencing hours was pretty much a free for all. They were further defined a few years later.

I lived on the Wandsworth side of the borders of LB Wandsworth and RB Richmond. Before all day opening, Richmonds pubs closed at 14.30 until re-opening at 17.00 and closed at 22.30. Wandworths pubs closed at 15.00, re-opened at 17.30 and closed at 23.00. Breathless punters would rush from one to the other at closing time! All day opening was great, especially on a Sunday lunchtime after Sunday morning footie, as other halfs with kids would gather and it became a great social event, enjoyed by everyone, especially when the weather was good, as the local had a large garden. I miss those days.

For the evenings, closing generally remained at 23.00, but for special occassions it would stay open for an extra hour and longer at NYE, bearing in mind it was in the middle of a residential area.

Yes, not all pubs, very few in fact - there wasn't the custom. However, the fact it never really caught on says a lot.

I'm just back from a few nights in Roi Et. Our hotel was probably half a mile from a row of vibrant night clubs - our room actually vibrated with the heavy base (it would have taken more than that to keep me awake). Everything was quiet by 1am. I didn't hear anybody complaining about early shut down.

Mind you, back in the day, Roi Et used to be closed by 8pm

Initially, in 1988, licensing hours changed to 11am-11pm. From 2005, they were able to open 24 hours, not sure if a license was needed to do so.
