Cycling North of Cha Am

Post by Ratsima »

I hadn't done a bicycle ride very far north of Cha Am in a while. I decided today was the day. Went up just beyond Puek Tian for a round trip of just over 60K.

This small fishing village is slowly being overwhelmed with condos and the like.

If you've ever driven north on the "Scenic Route" you have undoubtedly seen this abandoned condo/apartment complex.

Oddly, at the beach end there is one section that seems to be occupied. A restaurant is being built nearby.

This is near Puek Tian. The fishermen had nets close to shore. I asked one woman observer what fish they were after and she replied ปลาตา. Somehow that translates to Tarpon, which I doubt.

After all these years, the road to Puek Tian is still a mess as is the beach road. Why don't they pave it? Are they doing their best to prevent over-tourism? If so, it's working.

When I was at Puek Tian last year, the place was very much closed. What looked like police scene of crime tape was blocking off many old businesses that had been closed down. Is the place still deserted, or has a flicker of life returned?

Not a flicker. The only person I saw was a woman sweeping out what appeared to be an empty restaurant.

Such a shame. Somebody obviously had big plans, which went very sour.

I presume the Police Forensic Building was still in full swing.

That whole stretch road from Cha Am to Laem Phak Bia seems to be an endless string of big plans gone sour.

On the other hand, construction of government buildings continues unabated.
