Perhaps a local government building?
I walked past it last week and asked one of the workers what they were building.

I was told it is going to be a government building, but he didnt know if it was the local government or the military.

I've eaten lunch at a small local restaurant with a view of the lake for over twenty years when I'm in Thailand and I always thought it looked perfectly attractive without a building in the middle of it.

I made it back to the lake today, 2 weeks after my accident. I must say, the mystery building has not progressed much.

Here is the grand entrance that caller talks about:

The building consisted of mainly small, very high rooms, some created with red bricks, and others with insulated blocks.

If you look in through the front of the building (lakeside) there a couple of larger rooms, which could be more akin to museum modules.

In the beginning, I'd heard the museum was being constructed at the opposite of the lake. At that end there are a few glass walled buildings that could be museum chambers, and the land is being landscaped more fitting IMHO as a tribute to Rama IX.

Having said the above, I still can't see what any of it is yet.

For me, the Museum bit just came from what you said you'd heard initially, but what's with the multitude of small rooms - surely a museum (or possibly) "Art Gallery" as such would be more open plan?

I had the thought of a restaurant, but then again it's the small rooms.... Perhaps these being separate kiosks/food stalls? But then, surely there would be an outdoor space for enjoying the food and/or drink.

Basically, I've not a bloody clue! :D

It wasn't me that said Museum. I'd always heard the museum would be at the opposite end of the lake.

Amazing Thailand.

Not for the first time on this carbuncle, it seems somebody has cocked up big time. I think it was caller referring to the very grand entrance. They are demolishing it!!! They have a very small pneumatic drill up there removing the concrete which used to sit on the wired structure that remains (look carefully and you will still see small lumps of concrete attached). The crew had just started on a second strut as we passed. Even if you thought you knew what it was yet, it looks as though they are knocking it down and doing something else

I've been out and about a lot over the last 10 days or so, and my lake walks have been neglected. I went down today, and the carbuncle now has a roof, and so much better it looks for it too. caller's 'Grand Entrance has survived the demolition work, and is still looking grand, However, I still can't see what it is yet. The one clue so far is the back end (pigeon flying by) looks as though it has been left open, so if there is going to be a café, that would look a good proposition.

The roof is the best part of it. The rest is a design and construction generally consigned to history.
